Those subject to rheumatism should eat loss meat, dress as warmly as possible, avoid any undue exposure, and above all. drink lots of pure water. Rheumatism U caused by uric acid w hich is generated In the bowels and absorbed Into the blood. It is the function of the kidneys to filter this acid from the blood and cast It off in the urine; the pores of the skin are also a means of freeing the blood of this Impurity. In damp and cWlly, cold weather the Bkln pores are clos ed, thus forcing tha kidneys to do double work, they become weak and sluggish and fall to eliminate this uric acid which keeps accumulating and circulating through the system, eventually settling In the Joints and muscles causing stiffness, soreness and pain called rheumatism. At the first twinge of rheumatism get from any pharmacy about four ounces of Jad salts; put a tablespoon ful In a glnss of water and drink be fore breakfast each morning for a week. This is said to eliminate urlo acid by stimulating the kidneys to normal action, thus ridding the blood of these impurities. (Written for the United Tress.) NEW YOniC. Jan. 19. You guess ed it. Charley Ebbetts Is going to siring another "dedication day" and spring it early. Before the rob bing ere properly thawed out and hofore the baseball bugs get accli mated and blase on the subject of t-awnn", Mr. Ebbets will hit 'em with a "Pill Donovan" day. The wires had scarcely ceased ticking the news that BUI was to miumge the New York Yankees when Elibots ngnn singing 8ongs of praise for Donovrn. The fact that the same "Wi'd Villi' once hopped from Eb befs club to the Detroit Timers in the rid tuM'lall war was forgotten by the Dodder proxy and he turned loose n R.ilaxy of pleasing adjectives to v let sentiments. "Ukecblo fellow," said Ebbets. "0rnt personality. That wldo smile nd pood nnture gets the fans and players nllke." All this having been dutifully en rolled bv careful scribes, Ebbets got down to the business of the meeting. "That reminds me." said ho. "The Dodgf-rs play a couple of exhibition giiiros with the Yankees next April brf ro the season opens. Why not a holiday? Why not. We'll have it. We'll call it '11111 Donovan Day' and have the usual festivities. The Eb bets Marching and Chowder associa tion will march and there'll be a big crowd i - Pnssli.g up Charley Ebbets and his (cdlrutlcn days, U seems to be a sure bet that the move that brought Donovan to Yankees waa a popular one. They may be singing a differ ent tunc about July 4 but "Wild BUI" comes to town with the best wlfhea of tho fans. The feeling runs, too. that with Caldwell back on the burling corps, Donovan may turn out a team that will hum Its way in' to the f.'rst division. What la going on under Connie Mack's derby Is the problem that has every follower of the horsehlde pill, posslblo with the single exception of Mack htmslf, sorely puzzled. Keams of stuff were batted about the Infield dope when Connlo drop ped Eddie Collins to the delight of one Charley Comlkey. The Collins sennatlon cnine along as a fine young climax to the upset in the Athlctlc's pitching corps. Now Slack has 'em guessing again. Having once posed as the friend of tho young and ambitious In baseball, he sldo-tracked the practice of grab bing promising youngsters by taklns a clutch on Nap Lajolc. about the tlmo the word was going the rounds that the once great Napoleon was about to pass into obsourlty. Palldon remembered that Larry troops In the trenches on the advanced firing line. really did his limelight burst when h Jumped from the Philadelphia Na tionals to Mack's team in 1)01 and then swung to Cleveland. It was fig ured that this latest move was a sort of pension scheme for Lajols with a Job of coaching a few more young tters Maclr U expected to dig from the bush league haunts. Hut Mr. McGllllcuddy killed that yarn. Thirteen years of service with CK eland may have worn the edge off Napoleon, Mack admitted, but there is considerable solid baseball man left. Instead of rusting on ths benches Lajole will amble up to the bat when the 1915 season blows open, Mack says. The Collins-Lajole double-climax was too much for the sharks. It left them faint. Nothing more that can come out of the camp of the ex worlds champions will create much of a stir. Nobody knows how far Connie Mack will go. No matter how far It Is, nobody hereafter will express much surprise. 4 r.ELGIAXS CAXXOT COME JUST NOW LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 19 Bel glum cannot now cooperate with or ganizations of Nebraskans or with citizens of other states to organize a movement to place on farms In this country desirable Immigrants from that stricken land. A letter from Minister Havenlth of Belgium to Secretary Whitten of the Lincoln Commercial club conveys this Infor mation. The letter came in reply to one sent by Secretary Whitten to Secretary of State Bryan, which Mr. Bryan turnd ever to the Belgian minister. In his communication, Mr. Whitten empha sized the desirability of making an or. garized effort to choose the best of the Itelglan farmer class who are ex pcted to leave Europe as soon as they can, and place them on farms In the middle west. The Belgian minister expressed his griiifxatlon at the interest taken In his people by the people of Nebraska, but he says that under the present conditions It would be Impossible to take tip any such plan Just now, but that he would be glad to cooperate In such a movement later.
