double program. The first was a
cantata by grownups, interpersed
with scriptural reading, an address of
welcome and two recitations.
The music was new and well ren
dered by a chorus of about 20 voice.

and intermediate departments was a
preparation for a reception to Eanta

Hoflich, by the use of a hose, was
transferring lighting gas from a tank
on a car on a side track to one of
the coaches of the train. Due to a
defect In the connection, the gas leak
ed and was Ignited in some way by
Hofllch's lantern. Instantly the es
caping gas blazed. Though his cloth
ing was ablaze, Hoflich managed to
disconnect the hose and shut off both
tanks Bystanders rushed to his as
sistance and tore his clothing off
Fave for a few minor burns, Hoflich
was not Injured. Had the fire reach
ed the gas in the tanks an exploalon
would doubtless have occurred.
