for a civic Christmas tree at the Odd
Kellows hall In that town on Christ
mas eve. The custom la an annuul
one with them.
Ulsa Sarah Rugglea, principal of
the Hawthorne school, will spend tho
holidays with relatives In Grass Val-
uy.
The dramatlration of 'The Bridge
of the Gods," to be given In the high
school auditorium this evening by the
pupils of the seventh and eighth
grades of the Washington school,
promises to be an entertainment of
much interest. Miss Vivian Brether
tn, who has been directing the pu
pils, has presented the program sev
eral times. The stage will be con
verted Into a miniature forest of
real fir trees and the Indian tepees
and the boys and girls In Indian cos-'
tumes will carry the audience back
to the time of Multnomah. The pro
ceeJs from the entertainment will
probably go toward starting a piano
fund.
Misses Oilman, Thayer, Rotto and
Carpenter, teachers In the Hawthorne
school, are planning to spend the
Christmas vacation In Portland.

Judges of King and Bpokane counties-
for the past five years are validated
by a decision of the supreme court,
which Incidentally gives each Pierce
county superior court. Judge
Christmas present of 12000, Increas
ed salary for two years previous,
which the county ouditor had refus
ed to pay. The decision upholds the
legislative act, allowing first class
counties to pay salaries of $4000 In
place of f 3000 fixed by the constitu
tion. The right of county game commis
sions to create game presorres in
which hunting is prohibited is af
firmed by the supreme court, uphold
ing the constitutionality of the game
code of 1913. The case was appealed
by a gun club of prominent Seattle
business and professional men had
made a preserve of their private game
reserve.
