LIGHT STEERS HOLD
FIRM III II. PORTUIID
One Load or. Idaho Stuff Sells at $8.25
During Uie Morning and Several
lxwdM of Oregon Offerings at $8.20.
(Courtesy of The Journal.)
PORTLAND, Ore., April 21. Com
pared with a week ago, there wag a
smaller run In all lines of livestock at
North Portland over Sunday, with the
exception of calves, which showed a
liberal Increase.
Market for cattle showed a contin
uance of the excellent feeling for light
tuff of finished quality, and one lot
of Idaho steers Bold, at $8.25 during
the morning, while two loads of Ore
gon offerings went at $8.20.
For ordinary quality the market was
less favorable, although It showed no
further gain of weakness. Killers are
discriminating more and more against
the ordinary to poor offerings, and
are lending encouragement to those
who are turning out superior quality.
' In the cow market the demand con
tinues quite fair, but prices are show
ing no further change.
General cattle market range:
Prime steers, 1100 to 1200
Pounds $8 008.25
Good to choice steers.... ?.757.8&
Common steers 7.00 ft) 7.25

Best bulls 5.50 Q 6.75
Common bulls 4.00 5.00
Beat light calves 9.00
Ordinary calves 8 00 9 8.75
Hog Market Is Lower.
Conditions in the hog trade at North
Portland when the market opened for
the week, were generally of steady
character, with little change In quo
tations from those In effect at the.
closing of lust week. While 'here was
quite a fair run of swine reported In
the yards over Sunday, totals of a
week ago were not reached, and this
caused some rather early buying at
a loss of 5c for tops. '
General hog market range:
Best live 175 to 225 lbs. $ 8.70
Prime heavy 225 to 250 lbs. 8.65 0 8.70
Rough and heavy 7.7538.35
Pigs, 75 to 125 lbs 7.75 8.25
Sheep Market Is Steady.
Fewer cars of mutton and lambs
came forward in the North Portlane
market over Sunday than had gener
ally been expected. Result was that
the trade held fairly steady with no
reneral change In the situation or
price from the closing of last week.
Today's run of mutton totaled 1003
head compared with 2419 head last
Monday and but 289 head a year ago.
General mutton market range:
