EIGHT PAGES. DAILY EAST OREGONIAN, PENDLETON. OREGON. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1013. PAGE SEVEN. WHEAT MARKET CHANGES BASE Chicago Market Ixwes at Start liut Start Iowcr WlM-n Price Begin to Bulge. CHICAGO, Aug. 13. There wan a change in the wheat market after the bearish opening. Similar conditions to those shown Monday were forced upon the wheat market at the open ing yesterday and prices ruled off 1-4 to 3-Sc a bushel. Closing figures for the day not only regained this loss, but there was a net rise of 1-8 to l-2e over Monday's finals. Responsibility for the bearishness of wheat option prices at the opening of the market can be safely placed at the doors of short sellers, who made initial sales In the hope of influencing a further sharp break which failed to materialize. Covering sales followed the bulge In prices. Broomhall cabled from Liverpool that the steady American theat cables caused support at the opening of the English market yesterday morning. Later realizing developed and prlcen declined ' with the undertone easy. The better reports from Russia and large arrivals there, larger Russian and Danubian offers, fine weather in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe, expected Increase in the vis ible here and weakness In spots, all served to create a bearish feeling. Wlieat. September Open 85 1-2, high 88 5-8, low 85 1-2, clOHe 86 1-4. December Open 98 1-8, high 90 j 1-4, low 89 1-8, close 89 8-4. May Open 94 1-8, high 95, low, 94 1-8, close 94 5-8. Aug. 13 Some contracting of oats is reported in the Palouse country for tidewater deliv ery on the basis of $1 a cental to farmers there, meaning practically CASTOR I A For Infants and Children. The Kind You Have Always Bought $23.90 here. The business Is of small volume and scarcely reflects the gen eral sentiment of the trade because not enough oats have been sold to date this season to firmly establish values. There is considerable last year's stuff still floating around and therefore the Immediate desires of the trade are being quite well taken care of. A very nominal amount of business It reported in the barley trade with quotations showing a spread of from $22 50 to $23.50 a ton for No. 1 feed. This alone Indicates that the market has not yet been established. Brew ing quotations range around 525 a ton. For Immediate delivery, small lots of club wheat are being taken In the country on the basis of 79c a bushel tidewater track, but next month's de livery Is generally finding bids a cent below this. For Immediate delivery small lots of bluestem are finding bids of 83c generally with a cent off for futures. Flour market is quiet both for pat ent and export. Corral Markets. LAMB MARKET IS SHOWING FIRMER (Courtesy The Journal.) PORTLAND, Ore.. Aug. 13. Con siderable strength Is showing in the market for lambs at North Portland, and recent sales -at $5.75 reflecting the change in sentiment regarding the offering of good fetuff. The general sheep trade reflects steadiness for Rood stuff, but poor offerings arc somewhut neglected and fail to bring their probablo worth, because killers do not have the facilities or space to take care of them. Practically the only arrivals avail able for lh livestock trade at .NorM Portland wire ihep, although pome other stuff had been held over from Monday. Seven loads entered the mutton yards over night. General sheep prices: Lambs, best $ 5.75 Lambs, ordinary 5 50 Wethers, best 4.25 fl 4.35 Wethers, ordinary 3.75 4.00 Kwes, best 3.80 Ewes, ordinary 3 25 3. 60 Hoe Market Holds Weak. The sharp loss in the price of hogs at North Portland put the local trade below the best markets of the east by a nickel. This is the first time for a very extended period that swine val ues here ruled lower than any of the big markets of the east. The bearish ness here la not due to any great in crease in offerings, but the simple de termination of killers to put down val ues. There were no hog offerings on the local market over night, there fore quotations are nominally contin ued at the previous range. GeneraJ hog range: ' Extra fancy $9.30 Ordinary light 9.25 Fancy heavy 9.10 Rough and heavy 8 00 Cattle Situation Is Weak. Practically the only arrivals of cat tle at North Portland yesterday was dairy stuff. The recepts of beef stuff were almost too nominal to note. General situation in the cattle trade is weak with prices depressed al though showing practically no change except for extra fancy stuff. The latter Is in fair demand with sales In frequent up to $8.35 for steers but'the bulk of the stuff ranges considerably below this. General market range: Fancy steers $8.00fT825 Medium steers 7.507.75 Ordinary steers 7.00 7.50 Fancy cows and heifers .. 7.25 7.50 Medium cows 7.00 Ordinary cows 6 506.75 Fancy calves 9 00 Ordinary calves 8.008.50 If you sit in a cool draft when you are heated and get a stiff neck or lame back, you will be looking for something that will ease the pain.
