THEY THAT MOURN.
There is a day of sunny rest
For every dark and troubled
night;
And srWf may bide an evening
Ruest.
But joy shall come with early
light.
And thou, who o'er thy friend's
low bier
Dost shed the bitter drops like
rain,
Hope that a brighter, happier
sphere
Will give him to thy arms
again.
Xor ltt the good man's trust
depart.
Though life its common griefs
deny
Though with a pierced and
bleeding heart.
And spurned of men, he goes
to die.
For God has marked each sor
rowing day
And numbered every secret
tear,
And heaven's long age of bliss
shall pay
For all his children suffer
here.

There will be no great international

has resigned as assist
A Question ant secretary of state a
Of Frct-doiii. few weeks before he
would have been re
quested to do so. The universe will
move along in much the same old way
and the new administration will not
be greatly disturbed. The assistant
secretary gave as a reason for resign
ing that he objected to the adminis
trations action regarding the Chinese
loan. Probably another reason was
the fact he knew his head would drop
anyway as soon as his successor could
b? selected. How could anyone seri
ously criticise the new administration
for the position it took regarding the
Chinese loan? The government mere
ly refused to be a party to a deal un
der which the destiny of China would
have been placed hard and fast in the
keeping of a few financiers of this
country and Europe. Being commit
ted to the principle that the chosen
officials constituting the government
of this country should control and
should not allow the machinery of
the government to be a plaything for
the money kings the new president
naturally applied the same principles
in his dealings regarding China.
Those who believe In freedom and
democracy will applaud the adminis
tration action regarding the Chinese
loan. Those who believe that a na
tion should be governed not by the
people but by an oligarchy of wealth,
In this Instance foreign, may howl if
they wish to do so. They may say If
they want to that the new government
is proceeding along sentimental lrfiea.
It is doing that very thing. The senti
ment involved is the same sentiment
that was uppermost at Bunker Hill.

be to obtain water from the Thorn

is plainly the best thing the city can
take up with at present.
Now what is wanted is action. Sell
the bonds and get busy; Local people
have been waiting a long while Jor
gravity water and we now have over
300 patients in the state hospital to
whom gravity water has been prom

There is a peculiar slip In our elec
tion laws that is causing trouble In at
least one case. Under the
A Cause. law a foreigner who has
Of Strife, taken out" his first papers
may vote in this state
However his wife does not obtain the
right of franchise until her husband
has been fully admitted to citizenship.
A case has come to light In Port
land where the wife is a suffragette
but her husband Is opposed to votes
for women. He has taken out his
first papers and may vote. But hav
ing the advantage over his helpmeet
he proposes to hold it and says he
will not take out his second papers.
His wife says that if he Continues
that attitude she will secure a divjree
and thus obtain the right of franchise.
It would be better of course to have
the law changed so as to remove this
inequality. However, it is not likely
many divorces will result even If the
present law stands. A home that
could be wrecked on this rock would
go to pieces sooner or later anyway.

Some of these locomotives are running

As a rule, when a locomotive jumps
the track, the accident is ascribed to
some peculiar defect in the track,
rather than to Insufficient flanging on
the locomotive. It is undeniable that
many supposed rail defects are in re

wheel tires. The Railay Age Gazette

A Wonderful Tonic
That Aids Digestion
Thousands are unable to digest cer
tain kinds of food. In most cases it is
not the fault of the food, nor the
stomach. It is probable that the
stomach has been abused. Many re
sort to predigested foods and various
kinds of medicines to get relief from
dyspepsia, indigestion and heartburn,
but without permanent benefit.
If your stomach was in perfect
condition, you would not need medi
cine to digest the foods you eat.
Jayne's Tonic Vermifuge is a stomach
regulator. It gets the stomach in such
a condition that it will digest food
Without other assistance. It over
comes the acidity and stimulates the
coating of the stomach and Intestines
so that they will properly absorb and
assimilate the nutriment from the
food eaten. Sufferers from dyspep
sia and indigestion will find perma
nent relief In a short time after be
ginning the use of the tonic. For
chllderen. the addition of a little su
gar will make It most palatable.
Many forms of supposed Indigestion
