SILK SPECIAL MAKES A FAST On May 25th the steamer Cyclops of the "Blue Funnel Line" left Qo Icahoma. having in Its cargo 1260 bales of silk valued at $565,000. On Saturday, June 8th at 2:45 p. m , this silk, loaded in five buggage cars with a passenger coach for the crew, left Tacoma bound for St. Paul over the Northern Pacific and running spe cial. This train reached St. Paul at 9:30 p. m., Monday June 10th, where It was turned over to the Burlington road en route to Chicago and from there to New York was carried over the Pennsylvania system. The train traveled over the Nortth ern Pacific, including the crossing of both the Cascade and Rock mountain range, at an average rate of speed of 36 miles, an hour including all stops and twelve changes of engines. The dlHtance traveled between Tacoma and St. Paul, 1904 miles, vas made In 52 hours and 45 minutes. These bales of silk were transported 4259 miles acros the Pacific ocean, 1904 miles over the Northern Pacific, 431 miles over the Burlington, and 907 miles over the Pennsylvania road, making a total of 7501 miles in all from the starting point to destination.
