(From Thursday's Journal.)
With almost a record breaking run

fairly well; In fact, better support has
been given local killers than usually
expected of them In times of plenty.
The market for cattle continues
strong at other points and east of tho
Rockies values remain In a good posi

showing of 2200 cattle for tho day.

Salt Lake City. An unusually high
birth rate and low death rate were
claimed today for the Mormon peo
ple by Hyrum M. Smith, an apostle,
the principal speaker at the second
session of the Mormon conference.
He addressed an audience of nearly
7,000 at the Tabernacle.
"The records sljow," said the apos
tle, "that the birth rate among the
members of the church for the last
year was 3S to 1,000.
"Although this Is a higher ' rate
than among any other people that we
have a record of today, it is not high
enough. We should have more chil
dren and we should care for them."
The mortality In the church, he
said, was 8.6 per cent in the last
year.
