That the Portland mutton market
Is today the 'best In the entire coun
try, quality and price, is Indicated by
the latest sales here compared with
similar stock at competing centers.
Thut outside shippers at competi
tive centers are ofc the same opinion
is shown by the fact that 10 loals
of stock are en route to this city from
Killings, Mont. The shipment was
due here several days ago but was
held back on account of the sllJe on
the North Hank railroad. It was
kept and fed at Spokane an 1 then
shipped to Tacoma, where it is being
unloaded and fed today. The ship
ment wUl come forward ' to thi city
tomorrow morning.

Cattle Market Very Good.
There was a very good tone in Ihe
cattle market at North Portland for
the day. Receipts were 268 head
compared with 05 head Thursday
"J here were some excellent cows
offering and top steers that cane for
ward sold at ton quota tloru In the
vrrds.
Uest cows sold at $5.60 dicing the
mcrrilng's trade' and offerings were
quickly picked up at that figure
whenever quality was available. Some
clightly inferior stuff nold at Jb.OO
cud was quickly grabbed up. '
No calves came forward and prices
are nominally continued at the high
range of yestrday.
For some days there hag been a
very good demand for cattle at North
Portland. The market has been in
excellent shape and whenever quality
was avallablo killers readily took hold
even at advanced prices.
According to a" prominent local
killer,' the price paid for cattle at
Portland today is better than at any
comnetlnir center. According to this
authority cattle can almost 'be sent
from the Omaha territory into this
market and obtain favorable prices
Instead of the movement payinb tet
ter toward the east. "Quality for
quality and price for price," says this
buyer, "we are paying more for cat
tle here than actual sales are shown
at South Omaha."

HB Market Is Finn.
Fluctuations in the hog market
elsewhere are not being answered by
the local trade. The policy of buyers
at North Portland Just now is to keep
the market steady to strong at the
besf' price possible. Frequent fluc
tuations are said to really be a'detri
ment to shippers as well as buyers.
Besides, it has a bad effect upon the
dressed meat trade.
The hogs that came forward today
at. North Portland were a direct ship
ment to killers, therefore did not en
ter the trade. With no supply vis
ible with which to test the trade yes
terday's quotations are continued.

Why Should I Use
Cuticura Soap?
"There 3 nothing the matter
with my skin, and I thought
Cuticura Soap was only for skin
troubles." True, it is for skin
troubles, but its great mission is
to prevent skin troubles. For
more than a generation its deli
cate emollient and prophylactic
properties have rendered it the
standard for this purpose, while
its extreme purity and refreshing
fragrance give to it all the advan
tages of the best of toilet soaps.
It is also invaluable in keeping
the hands soft and white, the hair
live and glossy, and the scalp
free from dandruff and irritation.
While its first cost is a few cents
more than that of ordinary toilet
soaps, it is prepared with such care
and of such materials, that it wears
to a wafer, often outlasting several
cakes of other soap, and making
its use, in practice, most econom
ical. Cuticura Soap is sold by
druggists and dealers everywhere,
but the truth of these claims may
be demonstrated without cost by
sending to "Cuticura," Dept. M,
Boston, for a liberal sample
cake, together with a thirty-two-page
book cn the thin and hair.
