Steadiness was shown in the mut
ton trade at North Portland In the
mutton trade at North Portland dur
ing the morning. There was a run of
4 77 head which means the totals for
the first two days of the week an
e'lual number compared with 786 for
the same two days in 1910.
Some ewes that averaged 93 pounds
went out during the morning at $1.40.

While there are very light Offer
ings of cattle in the local market at
this time, more are coming than the
demand Justifies. Although only 311
head have been received at North
Portland thus far this month com
pared with 1243 for the same period

practically every packer al
ready has more cattle than he knows
what to do with. All nearby feed lots.
are again full of cattle, the surplus
lit North Portland is filled and there
is only a nominal call at present for
dfessed meat.
This creates a situation that has
not been shown In the trade here for
many a season. Wants of packers are
nil, .and under present conditions are
likely to remain so for some time.

terrupted. Cables were generally bonrlsh with
only fractional changed from yester
day. This market opened unchanged forJ

July. The principal selling pressure
-appeared later in the day.
