run as a special expres-s train to New
York contained human hair imported
from China to be used in making
curls, puffs, etc. The imperial edict
to cut off queues is largely responsible
for this big shipment.

the motor car, has resumed his run
after a month's absence in Missouri.
His wife and child stopped in Colo
rado enroute home for ashort visit.
J. P. 'Winter and Joseph Skrable
left at noon today for St. Paul, Minn.,
on legal business. Mr. Winter will
return to Pendleton November 20.
Mr. Skrable will visit the southland
and return in one month.

Seattle, Wash. Mrs. M. E. Brad
ford of Portland, critically ill with
dropsy, bequeathed a fortune of no
mean sum to Albert J. Smith of Wells.
Minn . a sweetheart of her school days
and forthwith he hastened to Port
land njid started to make arrange
ments f...r her funeral. He even pur
chased a coffin for his benefactress.
Now her chances of recovery are said
to be excellent.
The case has reached the county
court, as two neighbors of Mrs. Brad
ford, one a sister, Ilebekah, appealed
to that tribunal to be appointed guar
dian over Mrs. Bradford, who. says
one in her petition, bids fair to live
long, owing to the curative powers of
potato water and foot baths in a
wormwood solution. The case will be
heard next week. No charge is made
against Smith.
Smith says he bought the coffin
bellause he was anxious to return to
Minnesota and he had understood
Mrs. Bradford could not live.
