Weston, June 21. Sunday morning
nt nine o'clock the Methodist Sunday
school and the. German Haptlst Sun
day school went out to the O'llarra
school and held children's day pro
gram, after which they had preaching
services, then a dinner for all. The
afternoon was spent In playing In the
meadow. Everybody that went hail
an enjoyable and entertaining time.
Robert Reynolds, who has been In
California for the past year visiting
his older brother, Enrle Reynolds, and
also engaged In working for him at
the Soldiers' Home, returned to
his mother's home In Weston Satur
day evening. Mr. Reynolds' many
Weston friends welcome him home
and are very glad to see him.
llrk Gcrberdlng, who has been en
gaged In running a hack between
the depot and the hotels nt Weston
for the past year, has purchased a
new cab, which Is a credit to the city
of WcFton.
Crowds of people attended the
Athena-Weston ball game which was
fine, especially for Weetnn.

Sunday visiting his parents, Mr. and

Fred Kershaw, assistant cashier of
the Farmers' Rank of Weston and
J;is. Ashworth returned Sunday from
a trip on the Umatilla river where
they had been fishing. They report
ed fine fishing.
Jack Keefe, formerly of Weston,
was In the city Sunday morning but
went to Athena in the afternoon to
play baseball.
Miss Cecil Boyd wan In Weston Sat
urday from Athena.
Miss Krma King will leave Mon
day with her sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Rcrt Winn, for the
springs, where they will camp for a
week, then Miss King will return to
Helix to visit there with her sister.
Mr. and Mrs. Josh King of Rltzvillo
are in Weston on a visit to their
daughter, Mrs. Elsie King.
Karl Hoge, a graduate of the Wes
ton high school, lian gone to Khalo
tus. Wash., to work this summer in
a depot.
Felix Beathe, who has been work
ing in Seattle since Christmas, has
returned to Weston to visit his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Fhillp Beathe.
Mr. and Mn, Henry Plnkerton
were In Athena Sunday visiting friends
and relatives.
Mrs. James Compton went Monday
morning to Walla Walla to visit her
daughter, Mrs. Clifford Culley and
also to receive medical treatment
Ira Kemp was In Athena Monday
on business.
John McRao left Monday evening
for Pendleton where he will attend
the Masonic lodge.

local pitchers hard, took advantage

won the first game in the series
against Oakland that began here yes
terday by a 7 to 3 score and played
an errorless game, which accounts
for the fact that while each team
made 11 hits, Oakland was unable to
get more men around the circuit.
Portland made three runs in the first
inning, one in the fifth and three in
the ninth. Oakland did not score un
til the eighth, when it made two, al

Portland Wins Again.
Portland, Ore., June 21. Portland
batted both of Tacoma's pitchers all
over the lot yesterday. McCament
lasted until the seventh when he was
hauled out after Portland had put
one run across the plate. With bases
full the locals touched up Hall and
gathered in four more runs before the
inning closed. Previously, in th first
three innings. Portland had acquired
four rvns. Taemna lambasted Jen
sen up to the eighth, but a little less
effectively than Portland. Both teams
piled up choice assortments of er
rors, but only -one of them figured
in the score.

Engle in the box Vancouver held
Victoria helpless and won yesterday's
game, 7 to 1. Engle allowed only a
few scattered hits, while Furchner,
for Victoria, was hit often and hard.
Jacobs' overthrow at the plate let in
two runs in the third inning and
Swain's home run took all the ginger
out of the locals.

Seattle, June 21. Seaton started
out well but weakened in the fourth
inning. Sage relieved him in the sixth

tightened after his team got a lead.
