BIGHT PAGES ELY EAST ORE OONIAN. refDLETON, OREGON, TUESDAY, MARCH 7, 1911. PAGE SEVEN TAKING A TUMBLE . invm A vn ctwvrtn ALIi OX THE TOBOGGAN Porker Ir l'ifUt'ii CViiW, Boot Ton to Flftoon a iid Sliwp t" Sumo Wool Quotations Ar0 Nominal. (Monday's, Journal.) Lato this afternoon the following changes were showing In the livestock market at North Portland: Hogs Down about 10c. Cattle Market 0c to 15c lower. Sheep and Lambs Price 10c to 16c lower. Run of livestock In the North Port land yards over Sunday was one of the gicatust ever shown here. A huge bunch of cattle came forward from Montana and Idaho as well as from Nebruska. The latter were purchased prior to arrival by a local packer and therefore did not enter the trade. On account of the heavy run of best stock generally, lower prices ruled here today. Cattle were prin cipally about a dlmo lower with the movement restricted during the early part of the day. On account of the arrivals from tne east, buyers were not bidding so high for hogs here and the same can be said of the sheep situation. WOOL QUOTED NOMINAL Suiull Iotft Moving at 10c to 17o for Courtto to Medium; liunt Weak. A few small lots of wool are re ported sold In tli o local market. For coarse dealers are offering 16c and for medium 17c a pound. Trade with the euit is limited on account of the tariff agitation. Holding Butler Firm. Decreasing make of local butter on account of the recent cool weather Is holding the price of fresh goods very firm here, although there la plenty of eastern and storage butter on hand. I'Kg Sltiiulion Easier. There is a slight tone of easiness In the egg situation. A few days ago the San Francisco market struck 17c a dozen for the first time since we dairy exchange was established. This was the low point of the season and Is said to be caused by the greater of ferings and not to any change In the storuge situation. Locally the egg market Is standing at 10 & 20c a dozen. While a few dealers are stfTI trying to get 21c for supplies, their efforts are not very successful and most dealers are not asking over ,20c and say they would be willing to clean up at 19c. Pay Mora for Potatoes. A slightly better feeling Is apparent In the potato trade all along the coast. Whether this Is due to the temporary check of arrivals or to a better undertone the next week will chow. Buyers here are offering an advance of about 10 per cental. World's Wlieat Market. Portland Cash club, 78 0 80c; blue stein, 81 83c. Buenos Ay res Wheat weak. Melbourne Wheat quiet, weaker. Calcutta Wheat slow. MI-O-NA. Drives Distress from I'pwet Stomachs in Five Minutes. MI-O-NA stomach tablets not oniy cure indigestion but build up the en tire system and make the weak and frail strong and vigorous. They are guaranteed to do so by Tallman & Co. They cause the glow of health to appear In the cheeks and the eyes bright and sparkling. They chase out bad blood and cause pimples and sallow skin to disappear. MI-O-NA stomach tablets are such wonderful stomach Invlgorators and upbuilders that they are sold under an agreement to return your money if they do not cure indigestion or any other trouble arising from an upset stomach such as bJilouHncss. dizslnesa, sick headuche, loss of appetite, rer mentation, nervousness, sleeplessness. nightmare, etc. And only 60 cents a large box at Tallmans and druggists everywhere "Stomach trouble hud bothered me a long time, and though I doctored and used several remedies there was no cure given me until 'I used MI-O NA. I used to feel weak, bloodleHs and depressed, but MI-O-NO built up my health and made nie strong." Mrs. J, Newton, Bellevue, Mich. Liverpool Wheat unchanged, to 3-8d higher. Berlin Wheat l-8c lower. Antwerp Wheat unchanged. Paris Wheat quiet. Budapest Wheat quiet. . Chicago Wheat 6-83-4c lower. Minneapolis May, 98 l-2e, St. Louis May, 91 3-8c. Kansas City .May, 87 l-8c. Winnipeg May, 92 3-4. Portland Wlieat Low. Lack of suitable steamship facili ties with the orient ond a general lack of competition for the business from this port Is said by grain Interests to be responsible for tho low price on wheat hero as compared with ports that have competition. It is stated thut although Portland has been forc ed to pay $3 a ton on flour for orien tal shipment, northern millers have been able to ship for $1 less. This eans therefore, that they are able to pay fully 2c a bushel more for wheat and still sell at the margin of profit. Locally there is a slightly better feeling In the wheat trade. Exporters have advanced their quotations a cent a bushel and millers generally are of fering the same rise. This places crub nt 7879c a bushel and blueBtem 81 i?r82c. Both of these are for track delivery. There was an Improvement in the foreign wheat situation today and Liverpool was higher although Berlin and Antwerp were not so firm. Oats market Ib firmer for large lots and for small ones vand while some small deals have been closed at $27 a ton for No. 1 white, tnose that want larger lots are forced to pay more. This Is a reversal of the general rule. Barley Is about 60c a ton higher on account of a further Improvement In the east. Feed Is quoted here at 123.60 $24 a ton. There Is no change In the flour sit uation. TO CUKE A COLD IN ONE DAI. Take LAXATIVE BROMO Qulnln Tablet. Druggists refund money if It falls to c;:re. E. W. GROVE'S signature la on each box. lie. PROFITS FOR PRISONERS. Rhode Island Cons Share Proceeds of I-alor. Providence, R. I., March 7. There was something resembling Joy de picted on the countenances of the 400 convicts In Rhode Island state prison when they went to their al lotted tasks this morning, for from this time on they will share In the profits made on their work. James F. McCusker, the new worsen of the Cranston Institution, is responsible for the project put Into effect today. Under the plan, the project-sharing system is to apply to ai! prisoners em ployed in the workshops, kitchen, laundry, bakery, engineering depart ment and such other departments as the chairman of the stae board may direct. All receipts in excess of $2000 a month are to be used for this pur pose and no part of the money thus pnij to prisoners is to be used for the payment of fines or costs of court. AH convicts who have been employed three months or moro are entitled o share In the fund. "Our board believes that this plan will be conducive to good discipline and be of great benefit to the men," suld Chairman Walter A. Read. "Many of the men leave the priBOn broken in spirits 'and with only a suit of clothes, and $5 between them and beg gary. The new system will give tne prisoner a chance to save money for a fresh start in the world or to helD his family, f he has anyone depend ent upon him." Advertising has sent the selling methods of the past generation to the scraphtap to keep company with the tallow dip and the horsecar. Founded on the most abstract of sciences, it concerns itself with the most concrete of facts. Wasteful and haphazard in its crude begin nings, it has revolutionized business because in its later development it has proved the most economical and efficient method of selling goods. Today manufacturers split pennies to find profits and split hairs to find costs. The old idea that an article is more expensive becase it is audvertis ed is exploded. As infallibly as wa ter seeks the lowest possible level, modern business seeks the most eco nomical method of marketing its products. An advertised article is cheaper than one which is sold to consumers by tallow-dip, horsecar methods. It will pay tho public to read the advertisements carefully to patron ize institutions that advertise, they represent tho progressive element of today. The store that advertises an ar ticle is the store that carries the eoods that will bear the closest scrutiny. Bost by Tost, is Newspaper Advertising 1 Wan t Ads WANTED.
