Ship Sunnysldo Produce.
Sunnyslde, Wash. The Sunnyslde
Produce Growers' association In 1910
shipped produce worth $11,000 and
still has $2000 worth of potatoes .o
sell. II. K. Nicolai shipped through
this association, from 27 acres, ap
proximately $3500 worth of vegeta
bles, besides what he sold to the can
nery and local stores.

were arrested Thursday In the pool

North Yakima, Wash. Sheriff Day
Thursday received a telegram from
Abe Runnel, liveryman at Taklma
city, stating tha.t he had started to
town with a crazy man, but that the
man had jumped out of the wagon
and gotten away, lie asked for he
because the man was thought to be
dangerous. Deputies Murphy and
Rtghtmlre returned empty handed.
Kill Coyotes In Oregon.
Raker, Ore. The scalp bounty law
passed at the 1S09 session of the leg
islature has been of benefit to the
stockmen of this part of the state,
2394 coyote scalps having been
brought to the clerk here for the
bounty of $1.50 each. The state has
paid out $3591 In bounties, 111 bob
cats and three cougars having been
killed.
Power Line Through IVeeunter.
Freewater, Ore. A crew has com
menced construction work on the new
power Jine of the Pacific Electric
Light and Power company to be used
for pumping purposes. The line com
mences at the Freewater substation,
goes through the Fruitvale district
and through the Hudson Bay country.
This means 30 miles of poles and over
100 miles of wire.

Control of the water of Moses lake
to be used for Irrigating 40,000 acres
of land in Grant county, Wash., Is the
basis of an action by the firm of
Ham, Yearslcy and Kyrle of Spokane,
against It. F. Pettigrcw, formerly.
United States senator for South Da
kota and the Northern Pacific rail
way company, now on trial In Spo
kane before Judge Steiner of the su
perior court of Grant county. The
Pettigrew interests arranged some
time ago to buy a large tract of land
south of the lake, but before the rail
way company's title was passed the
Spokane firm started work on an in
dependent Irrigation plant, designed
to water 40,000 acres of land on Crab
creek, below the lake.
The idea was to use the lake as a
reservoir. The Pettigrew project, es
timated to cost $1,000,000 Includes a
dam at the lake and flumes to carry
the water to the land. The defense
contends there Is not sufficient water
available to supply both projects, An
engineer,' called as an expert witness,
testified that the annual evaporation
U four feet.

tho presidency of the Missouri Pacific
next month probably means that the
scheme for a Gould road from the At
lantic to the Pacific, a dream cher
ished by the financier far many years
will never be realized. At the same
time, It Is likely that the plan will
be carried to completion by other in
terests. Inthe furtherance of his
dream of an ocean-to-ocean line,
Gould built the Western Pacific from
Ogden, Utah to San Francisco. Tho
Denver & Rio Grande from Denver
t) Ogden, and the Missouri Pacific
from St. Louis to Denver, were the
other links in the chain. At the same
time Mr. Qould attempted to move
eastward by means of the Wabash and
the Western Maryland, the latter
designed to be the final link In the
transatlantic chain. Then antagonis
tic Interests In the Wabash balked his
attempt to use that i roperty, the
Western Maryland went Into the
hnnds of a receiver, and, finally, Mr.
Gould is to lose supremacy In the
Missouri Pacific.
