Every old sore comes from some kind of impurity in the blood. It remains
an open, discharging place on the flesh because the circulation constantly de
posits into the fibres and tissues which surrsand the spot, tbe infectious matter
with which the blood Is contaminated. It Is Impossible for the sore to heal while
the blood Is In this Impure state. S. S. 8. heals old sores because it is tha
greatest of all blood purifiers; it goes Into the circulation and removes the cause
from the blood. When the blood has been purified there Is no longer any Inflam
matory Impurity or Infectious matter to irritate the place, and nature causes a
certain and natural healing of the ulcer. It is all well enough to endeavor to
cleanse an old sore, or stop the itching, or absorb the discharge, with external
applications, but & cure can never be reached in this way, because such applica
tions do not reach tbe blood where the cause Is located. S. S. S. does not simply
cause a scab to form over an old sore, but beginning at the bottom It heals the
place permanently by building new tissue, aad filling the place with flna healthy
flesh. S. 8. S. Is a purely botanical remedy, being made entirely of roots herbs
and barks, each of which has a direct and lasting effect in removing impurities
and poisons from the circulation. Old people who have suffered for years with a
sfcronlc sore will find B. S. S. a most helpful tomlc and system builder in counter
acting the debilitating effects of the old ulcer. Special boolc on Eore3 end Ulcers

MEDFORD AND BAKER
AS JOBBING CENTERS
Salem, Ore. Medford and Baker
City have filed complaints before the
railroad commission at Salem that
will precipitate the most vigorous
fight for more favorable rates that
has yet been carried on before that
body. The demand of these smaller
cities Is for distributive rates so that
they can be made Jobbing centers and
1. very similar to the now famous
Spokane rate case. In that Instance
before the Interstate Commerce com
mission. If these progressive Oregon cities
are able to obtain distributive rates
of any significance It will mean the
loss to the city of Portland of consid
erable business, all that business In
fact that now Is carried on br the
Portland Jobbers In the vicinity of
Baker City, in the eastern part of the
state, and Medford, in the southern
part. The commercial organiza
tions of both cities that are bringing
the complaints mean business and
the railroad commission expects to
give the matter a full investigation
at an early date.
As an adjunct to the demand for
distributive rates both the commer
cial organisations and each of the
cities named have also filed a com
plaint alleging discrimination and de
manding commodity rates on more
articles. If all these demands are
granted Baker City and Medford will
he formidable rivals In a portion of
Portland's field for the jobbing busi
ness. Don't Break Down.

SWIFT SPECIFIC CO., ATLANTA, OA,
Is an Innovation In eastern Washing
ton. H. M. Llchty, an orchard 1st In
the Taklma-Sunnyslde district, west
of Spokane, has perfected a plan to
place the science of growing commer
cial fruit of the highest quality and
color and uniform size upon a practi
cal basis.
Explaining his plan, Mr. Llchty said
that In every thoroughly cultivated
apple orchard there are trees when
stand out for yielding most of the
prize winners at national and state
shows. Scions are taken from these
and transformed to other trees by
budding and grafting, thus raising the
quality. The trees are recorded upon
an orchard plat, then registered and
a pedigree Is Issued to the owner.
"I de not claim that all trees so
grown will produce premium-winning
fruit," he added, "as that cannot be
said of pedigreed livestock; but the
experience of the foremost growers In
the northwest and the other parts of
the United States and Canada will
show that a greater percentage of
high grade trees is raised by following
a common sense system than by or
charding in the old fashioned way. My
own experiments prove there are su
peror strains of the several varieties
of standard apple trees."
Professor W. S. Thornber, head of
the horticultural department at the
State of Washington college, Pullman,
and growers in the apple belts in east
ern Washington and elsewhere, ap
prove the Llchty plan, the former say
ing that the products of healthy trees
may be Improved by budding and
grafting from superior stock. He add
ed there is just as much difference In
apple trees of the same variety as
there Is in horses of the same breed.
The plan of registering trees and
keeping a record of yielding perform
ances is also endorsed.
The Pure Food and Drug Law
has not only brought the foods and
drugs of this country up to a higher
standard of purity, but it has elimi
nated the harmful medicines with
which this country was flooded.
Such medicines, however, as Lydla
E. Pnkham's Vegetable Compound,
purely a roots and herbs product will
continue its beneficial work among
women.
