lltHiil Shipments to the Yards
Market Is AlniOKt Stagnant.
Portland Union Stockyards, North
Porltuiul, Ore., July 1. Buyers say
that the cattle market Is Improved.
Shippers Nay there Is practically no
demand.
Prominent shippers are disguested
with the way buyers have laid down
in the cattle market recently. The big
concerns have filled up with cheap
priced stuff, and are said to be In a
, iiuHltion where they can hereafter
regulate tile market themselves.
Today's run of cattle was very
small, and consisted of but 4 3 head.
Cows form' the principal arrivals in
this line, and four loads went this
morning at 1 3 75. It is stated that
cows of this same quality sold yester
day down to $3.60.
Hogs are firm with $10 still being
paid for supplies In the yards. To
day's run of hogs amounted to 147
head; about a car and a half.
No sheep came forward today, but
the yards are still full of supplies that
were received some days ago.
Because of their Inability to sell
their supplies, which must be carried
over and fed from day to day, ship
pers to the local market at this time
are losing considerable money. Hay
Is $30 a ton, is rather scarce, and an
expensive luxury to shippers at this
time, they say .especially when they
are selling the stock for l-4l-2c a
puunil less than they paid farmers.
The yards are crowded with hold
over cattle and sheep, and therefore
the losses to shippers will amount to
many thousands of dollars. One ship
per alone is said to have lost about
$1500 on his late venture.
Anionic the Shippers.
Mr. fiasner shipped 109 head of
"Kn by. boat to the yards today.
B. S. Norwood hail a ui'xed load
of cattle, calves and hogs on today s
market.
P. K. Edward shipped a load of cat
tle and calves from Drain
