"THE NEW IDEA."
We have a hobby.
It concerns every man. woman and
rhUd in town.
Our hobby Is but wait a moment.
Buppoe you are sick, or one of
your family Is sick. You consult the
best physician you know of and he
fives you a prescription.
You have a right to take that pre
scription to any druggist, no matter
whose name Is printed on It. You
have the same right to select your
druggist tnat you ao to select your
doctor.
Particular people bring their pre
scriptions to us, because our hobby Is
prescription work.
We take the same sort of pride In
compounding every prescription the
very best way that an artist takes In
painting the very best picture he
can; the same that the conscientious
doctor takes In bringing his patients
back to health.
We know drugs; we know where
to buy the best. We got that kind.
Appearances are deceptive. Two
phonograph records look exactly
alike, but the phonograph gets a II,
000 Melha song from one and a rag
time two-step from the other. 8o,
with drugs, the Inferior look as good
as the best.
Our hobby leads us to study each
prescription to muke It give the right
results. There Is no rule of thumb,
no guessing simply, accurate, scien
tific work done by men who know
and love their profession. If there la
any surer way than this we can't Im
agine what It is. And besides .
Any physician who knows us will
tell you "we do things r!ght." The
best way for you to know is for you
to bring your next prescription here
where such work la not regarded as
a drudgery, or a necessary evil, or as
a good chance to g t a big price for
something but where It Is a "hobby"
where It Is looked upon as th; most
Important service we can render to
out fellow-man.
The price! We haven't said any
thing about the price. That won't
bother you for a moment. We want
all the proscription trade we can get
It would be foolish for us to charge
too much We can afford to charge a
little too little, for the sake of bulld-
Ing up a branch of our business In i
which we are very keenly interested.
When you hove a prescription, re
member our hobby. Remember, too,
that we will call for your prescription
and deliver the medicine phone us
at any hour.

WEAKEN THE MAKKET
Seven Loud a Brought Forward at
Greater Cost Than Buyers Are Of
fering Locally Cuttle ami Sheep
Firm.
Portland Union Stockyards, ' North
Portland, Or., June 13. Weakness In
the local hog market was again caus
ed by the Importation of fresh sup
plies of Nebraska hogs by local pack
ers. These hogs coat killers much more
money than is being offered for the
local product nnd while they may be
somewhat better than the present of
ferings from the home territory, ship
pers are of the opinion that the dif
ference In the cost Is too heavy.
Encouragement of a substantial na
ture would give the local shipper a
chance to see the error of his way In
not putting out more hogs each sea
son, but as long as killers continue to
purchase the bulk of their supplies In
the east and pay therefor a higher
price than they give the local peo
ple, so long will such an unnatural
condition, viz., shipments of Nebraska
hogs to the Pacific northwest, con
tinue. While only seven loads were re
ceived from Nebraska today, this was
practically all that came forward to
the yards today, only 10 additional
head being received this morning. The
latter sold at $9.60. This Is consider
ed the extreme 'top for local hogs at
this time.
Good Cattle Are Firm.
Good cattle are quoted firm In the
local yards at this time and former
top values are therefore easily main
tained. Arrivals of cattle for the day
were l mited, but fancy cows sold up
to $4.75 and steers of like quality
dollar. Today's sales of cows were
would have bmucht an additional
made at an advance of a dollar from
the price In effect this day a year
ago.
Market for calves showed small ar
rivals today, but some fancy light
stuff sold up to $6.75, or 25c better'
than the previous best.
Sheep and lambs are holding prac-
tlrnlly
range.
unchanged at former price
Values are strong, however.
Will Vettl SUnk Better.
It has 'been decided by . local live
stock Interests to more thoroughly
grade all arrivals in the yards here
after. For Instance there Is a grow
ing demand for a better class of stuff
than is now offering and for these
buyers are anxious to pay a prem
ium over the ordinary run of stuff.
Therefore the shipper and feeder of
good cattle, hogs or sheep will get
the extreme top of the market while
what poor stuff may come forward
will sell ut what It Is worth and not
bo put together with the better qual
ity. This Is in line with the practices
mi eastern yards anil will bring the
general average up.
That there will he better feeding of
cattle the present season is now gen-
rally understood. The hay crop la
far in excess of a year ao. when sup
plies became so short that feeders
were either compelled to go out of
business altogether or else limit their
operations to a curtailed number. For
Instance the McCullough Brothers
have over a thousand head of cattle
on their summer range west of Echo
Just beyond lower Butter creek. This
is the first time in four years there
his been any food for stock on this
range during the summer. At one
time thousands of head of stock gras
ed here until the feed was completely
exhausted. But since the advent of
the various irrigation ditches a new
rass and various weeds have sprung
up making the p'ace once more a
profitable feeding ground and bring
ing back a remembrance of the old
days when stock raising was the sole
industry In this vicinity.
The Shippers.
llenline & Olinger brought forward
s-vrn loads of hogs from Nebraska
for t lie Union Meat company.
E Erlckson shipped a mixed load
of cattle and calves from Welser, Ida-
fiurnctf & P:ke shipped a load of
cattle and hogs from Buhl, Idaho.
C. O. Vernon was In from Turner,
Ore., with u mixed load of cattle and
calves.
Georg,. Kehlhagen paid a flying
visit to tho yards from Roseburg. He
had a load of sheep.
E. E. Sherrltt was In from Drain
u itii a load of cattle.
Today's run of livestock compares
with this day In recent years as fol
lows: Hogs Cattle. Sheep.

OIL GUSHER INCREASES
Pan Francisco. After gushing for

at a steady, 1500-barrel clip, No. 1'
well of the Palmer Oil company, In I
the Santa Maria fiefds, has suddenly!
begun to spout at a greatly increased !
rate and for several days has been
producing 2000 barrels a day.
No. 2 well of the Palmer company,
which came in as a gusher a couple
of weeks ago, sanded up last week,
but has been cleaned out and Is now
under control, being permitted to flow
in such quantities as can be handled
by the Union and Associated pipe;
linos. j
News of the bringing In of anoth- I
or big gusher Is momentarily expect-
ed from the Santa Maria fields, where
the New Pennsylvania Oil company
lias Just finished a well at 3655 feet.'
Fearing that the well will gush and
Kot beyond control before storage fa
cilities can be provided, water is be
ing pumped Into the well, but despite
tho nsoo foot column of water the
ir.is pressure Is so great that oil s
being forced over the casing head at
tho rate of about 200 barrels a day.
When the water pressure is removed
ir is expected that the well will tnrt
io gush at a terrific rate. The bring
ing in of this well Is a very Important
development In the Santa Maria fields
us it proves the productiveness of a
large additional area. ;
The Union Oil company has just!
completed the bulbing of a reservoir
with a capacity of $2,500,000 barrels
and has begun the construction of an
earl hern reservoir, with a capacity
of fi, 000,000 barrels, sl miles front
