500 MOKE MEN NEEDED

(Special Correspondence.)
Stanfield, Ore., April 11. The de
mand for labor In this part of Ore
son so far outruns the available sup
ply that 500 men could easily find
employment at good wages at the
present time. This condition has Its
origin mainly in the rapid develop
ment taking place in the West part
of the county in the Irrigated fruit
districts about Hermiston and Stan
field. At this place alone 250 men
will be needed this year to take care
of newly planted orchard tracts. The
great amount of improvement work
and new construction just being be
gun on the O. R. & N. will still farther
increase the demand for labor and
men who are looking for work at re
munerative figures need have no hes
itancy in making Stanfield their point
of destination.
There is also a great deal of build
ing activity at present, there being
close to J100.000 worth of concrete
construction in the town in progress
In addition to the large number or
frame dwelling houses.
Immigration from the middle west
continues more active than at any
time heretofore, but most of the new
comers are themselves employers of
labor, in -the development of their or
chards and the building of their
homes. Weather conditions are ideal
with clear quiet and shunshiny days
and warm nights and with an aouna
ance of moisture to insure good crops
in the lands above the ditches so that
all things point to a most prosperous
vear for Stanfield and Umatilla
county.

PROPS. WILL TAKE JOBS
AWAY FROM AD WRITERS
Cambridge, Mass. Psychologists
at Harvard are son to reduce the art
of "ad" writing toa science. Ac
cording to Professor Charles Sher
wood Rickcr of the department of
psychology, the last word In Huch
writing will be spoken in a few days.
He said:
"In a few days psychologists will
reduce to an exact science the method
of composing advertisements so as to
obtain the highest number of answers.
"Every ad makes a certain Impres
sion upon the eye and is conveyed to
the mini. The will power is swayed
and governed by these sensory impres
sions. If the sensory impressions are
vivid enough and compelling enough
they cause the will center of the brain
to act, thus forcing the reader to
write and answer."
