IUTT AND CLARK
ARE WINNING TEAM
New York, Dec. 13. Walter Rutt,
of Germany, and "Jack" Clark, of
Australia, won the annual six-day bi
cycle race at Madison Square Garden
Saturday night from an exhausted
and hopeless field. Their distance
of 2660.1 miles for 142 hours, which
Is 75 miles behind the rocord of
2737.1 miles made last year by Mc
Farland and Moran, gives no adequate
idea of a race which for broken rec
ords, broken precedents and broken
teams has been the most exciting ever
seen at the garden.
In the competitive mile exhibition
betweent the two winners that fol
lowed the race proper, Rutt defeated
his partner, Clark, by six Inches, al
though Clark Is rated tho speediest
short-distance man in tfie world, bar
ring only Frank Kramer tho cham
pion. The men divided first money
$1600 between them.
"UNWRITTEN LAW"
SCORED BY JUDGE
New York. Criticism of the "un
written law" was voiced by Judge
Wiltbank when, In sentencing Charles
H. Wilson, a negro, to two years In
Jail for fatally shooting Claude Wll-
llnms, another negro, he compli
mented Attorneys Freas and Mc-
Nichol, counsel for the defendant, for
not resorting to this plea to save
their client.
"The 'unwritten law' Is merely an
appeal to the sympathies of the Jury.
It is a fallacious argument at best
and it has no place In this court,"
said the Judge. Wilson was found
guilty .of murder in the second degree.
