Tht monthly smoker of tho Pen
dletoti Amatour Athletic club was
held nt the Oregon theater last n'ght
before a small audience. Those
present, however, seemed to th'nk
thpy were given their money's worth.
There were four short bouts, all of
them Interesting, though the main
event proved very much of a disap
pointment. This was due to tho rea
son that Overturf wns In no condi
tion to box nnd his scheduled 15
round bout with Cuff went less than
two, much to the chagrin of the spec
tators who had settled themselves
for a good exhlb'tlon when the two
men first squared off for the en
counter. The first half of tho first
round was very good, but before the
gong sounded, Overturf's wind was
nil gono and he was about all in
when he found hl' chair In the cor
ner. The next round wns young
when Referee , Kvans pronounced
Cuff tho victor and ended the match.
The preliminary event was between
Al niehnrdson and Robert Uradley,
two local colored men. This was a
clean spurring exhibition with few
clinches and was pronounced a draw
by the referee .
Knit ChiilleiitfeH Long.
Afteir the nmin event provi.d to be
such a fasco. Hilly Butts and Chris
Castle agreed to box a few rounds
for the amusement of the audience,
ami before they commenced. Evans
on behalf of Butts. Issued a public
challenge to Louis Long for a re
turn match. Long won a decision
over Butts while tho wool growers
were hero and tho latter Is anxious
to redeem his lost laurels.
While Butts was too much for his
opponent, the bout was not without
Interest and both men were cheered.
The evening was brought to a close
by a sensational whirlwind single
round bout between .Frank Nodo and
Ernest Todhunter. This was a give
and take proposition from the start
nnd the participants took It so pe
rlously that the game was stopped.
