"The Garden City Monitor," la the
name of a new publication to be es
tablished through the Trades and La
bor council of Walla Walla next
month, the publication to be issued
by Jesse Ferney, providing the labor
ing men of the city pledge enough
subscriptions to make the venture a
success.
A committee which was recently
appointed, together with delegates to
the Trades and Labor council, are
working on the pledges for subscrip
tions, and as soon as 500 cash sub
scribers have been received, the first
edition will be launched. It Is prob
able that the first number will be is
sued about October 10, after which
It will appear every week.
It Is the intention of Mr. Ferney to
make the paper at the start a four
page, seven column publication, cov
ering all the news of the labor world,
It will be the official organ of the
Trades and Labor council, and it ls
believed that a subscription list of
fully 2000 can be secured.
For a number of years the labor
bodies of the city have felt the need
of a paper In Walla Walla, and now
that Mr. Ferney has consented to es
tablish one In return for a sufficient
number of cash subscribers, members
of the various labor bodies have tak
en up the work of securing the sub
scriptions. The Monitor will be a non-partisan
sheet and will keep clear of any af
filiation, except in cases where the
election or defeat of certain candi
dates is desired by the labor Interests.

Pewcy entered the navy on Septem
ber 23, 1854, and today Is hence the
54th anniversary of the day that the
hero of Manila became connected
with the naval service.
