an explosion of gas during a small

Minneapolis, Sept. 9. Plans were
made here today by business men to
raise a purse of $25,000 for the suf
ferers from the (forest fires which

ing apples and pears, the output Is not
as large ns this time last year, says
tlie Sii lem Statesman. The total out
put Is several thousand cases short
of what it was last year and there Is
not much of a promise to redeem the
deficiency. The average run of a
day now Is from 180 to 200 cases,
each case containing 24 cans. Last
year at this time about 22,000 cases
had been canned, while this year only
about 14,000 is the result of the sum
mer. Iist year about 4000 cases had
I n shipped already, but tho total
this year Is 1300, quite a noticeable
deficit. The only explanation of the
dull market Is that tho fruit does not
sell well. The cannery will continue
to run on the pear and apple crop
until some time In October. A few
berries are coming in yet, but tho
amount Is small.
