ever known In the police history of
this city.
Annie Cooper a 6-year-old girl, the
victim, Is In a critical condition at
her home. She was dragged Into a
vacant basement, where her skull wa
fractured by a blow In the mouth
that cut off her tongue. '
The child's mother found her In a
pool of blood and near by was the ',
club which evidently had been used
In the attack. Several men of the
neighborhood attempted to form a
mob, but It was dispersed by the po-'
lice.

the other man on the Farnam street
car to go to some appointed place
where the doctor was to meet him
and of her parting with him for the

. Davis Testifies.
Charles E. Davis, the man Impli
cated In the affair by Mrs. Rice, gave
brief testimony, admitting' his own
attempt at suicide with morphine and
other poisons furnished him by Rus
tln, but denied any knowlege of Rus
tln's death until the day after It oc
curred.
Omaha, Sept. 9. The net tighten
ed around Chas. E. Davis, a brother
of Fred Davis, the vice president of
the First National bank, today at the
Inquest Into the strange death of
Frederick Rustln. Davis admitted he
obtained .poison .from Rustln with
the purpose of killing himself, that

ney Jerome today declared that he
thought it unlikely that Harry K.
Thaw would be able to go to Pitts
burg In jesponse to a summons lnj
connection with bankruptcy proceed
ing?. He considers the order for
Thaw to appear In Pittsburg to he
merely a technical move to get the
slayer of Stanford White out of New
Tork.
It Is understood that Jerome will
use every means within his power to
prevent the removal of Thaw to
Pittsburg and will oppose vigorously
the effort to get him out of the state.
There Is much speculation as to the
legal complications that would be
caused by such a move.
Aid Society Man Here.
J. Teuscher, representative of the
Boys' Girls' Aid society of Port
land, arrived here this afternoon on
train No. 1. He Is bound for Port
land from Union county and stopped
over to consult County Judge Ollll
land regarding charges from this
county. According to Mr. Teuscher
his Institution Is now quarantined for
measles and consequently new mem
bers cannot be taken at present.

Ferry, a division point on that

will be under the supervision of
the state land board of Idaho.
