PORTLAND, OREGON
S;ilt Lake, Utah, Aug. 25. Wool
growers from all over the west are
meeting hero today with the executive
committee of the National Wooigrow
ers' association to consider plans for
a national wool storage movement.
If the scheme is put Into effect,
sheepmen say. It will put on end to
the bear movement In the wool mar
ket which takes place at, shearing
time every spring and usually results
In heavy losses by the woolgrowers of
the west. Wool warehouses will be
established at central points through
out the country, where the wool will
be stored until such time as the
growers are offered what they con
slder a fair price. -
Cotton growers of the south, by
means of their union, have for years
used tho same plan to keep up the
price of cotton, and the sheepmen
believe that It will be fully as effective
when applied to the wool growing In
dustry.
Secretary C. B. Stewart of the Utah
Woolgrowers' association, a leader In
the "woolgrowers trust," movement,
declares that the sheepmen In this
state who were offered 8 cents a
pound for their clips Just after shear
Ing time, have netted 164 cents a
pound through the storage movement,
saving ti cents a pound above the
price first offered, which would other
wl.se have been pocketed by the buy'
ers.
The meeting here today Is a recog
nition of what has already been ac
complished by the Utah sheepmen
and marks the beginning of the move-
ment of national extent.
At the present meeting a report
will be read from the committee that
was appointed by the national asso
riatlon to go to Chicago and look Into
the proposition of bankers and busl
ness men there, which was made to
encourage tho shipment of wool to
that city.
Chicago Will Help.
It Is said that at Chicago bankers
have promised to advance millions of
dollars upon wool for next year's
clip that Is sent here for storage, and
that other business men have made
eteouraglng offers concerning the
handling and storing of wool.
l!ut Chicago Is not the only city
thiit Is in the field to secure tho wool
that will be shipped for stor.iue under
the national movement. Boston, Phil-
delplila. Omaha, St. Ijouis and other
cities are Just as eager to get the
wool.
Mr. Walker said that for years wool
growers had been at the mercy or
buyers and that the national storage
iroveiaeiit was for the purpose of put
!ng an end to this condition, which
had caused losses to producers.
The national storage movement
would result In the sitvllig to wool
growers (if immense sums of money,
ake the results of the Utah storage
novemcnt as an example.
"lteeently between 100,000 and
00,000 pounds of Utah wool, for
hleh the sheep men were offered 8
cents a pound by buyers early In the
ason, were sold nt 16 cents a
pound net. That Is, the wool grow
i s cleared 16 Vj cents nbovo all ex
penses of shipping and storage. The
rice was 8H cents more thnn was
I'fered vby the buyer he would have
nunie more tnnn tne wool grower.
ho took all the risks nnd did all the
ork simply because he shipped the
wool from the producing point to the
eastern markets. That gives some
Idea of what can be saved to the
western producers of wool.
"If the wool of the west Is stored
until the manufacturers enter the field
for it, there will bo no further need
of paying annual tribute to the buy
ers, whose work in shipping the wool
to the right market can Just as well
be done by the producers.
"As the wool growers begin to more
thoroughly understand what the stor
age movement means, their enthu
siasm Increases. Next season, there
will be a vast amount of wool stored,
or buyers will offer better prices at
shearing time."
AT CITY MISSION
Young Woman Found in Awful Con
dition with Scabies Body a Mass
of Sores from Scratching Tried
Many Remedies for Seven Weeks
Result Was Discouraging, But
ITCHING TORTURES
YIELDED TO CUTICURA
" Whilo I was doing missionary work
in tho lower portion of several cities I
found it necessary to know a little of
the efficacy of a few medicines and
after a whilo I found that a little knowl
edge of Cuticura was about all I needed.
One of tho very bad eases I had to deal
with was that of a young woman who
had come to us not only Drolten in
spirit but in a most awful condition
physically. Our doctor examined her
and told us that she had scabies (the
itch), incipient paresis, rheumatism,
etc., brought on from exposure and the
effects of her ragged-edged life. Her
poor body was a mass of sores from
scratching and she was not able to
retain solid food. We tried many things,
a good tonic was nreserilied and baths
with a rubbing of lard and sulphur. We
worked hard tor seven weeks and' you
can imagine how discouraged we were
when, after all that time, we could see
so little improvement. One day I hap
pened to see a Cuticura advertisement
telling how a little baby had been
cured of a bad case of skin eruption,
and although I had but ninety-seven
cents with me, I bought a cake of Cuti
cura Soap and a bottle of Cuticura
Insolvent. When d reached home I
was like a child with a new toy, and "we
bathed our patient well and gave her a
full dose of the Resolvent. She slept
that night better than she had since
she had been with us ana tne next aay
I located the price of a box of Cuticura
Ointment. I am not exaggerating
when I say that in exactly five weeks
this young woman was able to look for
a position, being strong enough to work
and full of ambition. In another
month she left the home, and now has
a good position in a nice family where
she is respected and is strong and well.
