OREGON SOLON WILL
IXTRODICE AN ANTI-BILL.
Washington' Iw Will Bo rrcaonted
to Oregon LogMatiire li Order to
Abolish "Coffin Nails" Measure a
Draslo One But Not Enforced In
Neighbor State.
Death to the cigarette, says Oregon
and to that end Representative Mc
Donald of Multnomah county, Is
planning on Introducing Washington's
Till law In the Oregon legislature,
and Intends to get it passed.
If Representative McDonald has his
way the Oregon small boy will no
more hie himself out In the alley or
behind the barn to solace himself
with a forbidden "pill," nor will the
banquet board of the rich be wreath
ed with the smoke curling from the
perfumed and seductive cigarette
from the land of czar and the Tlldla
Kiosk.
Cigarettes are not Included In the
list of necessities according to the
belief of Mr. McDonald, who consid
ers that they are not good for the
public health or morality of the state
and should not be sold either to
young or old. Therefore, to bar them
from the stores of the state, he Is
planning to bring the Washington
antl-clgarette law before the leglsla.
ture and make It his chief effort dur
ing the session to secure its passage.
The Washington state antl-clgarette
law is a drastic one, t'hough it
Isn't working Just at the present time,
Eor It has not been according to the
"fiends." However, that makes no
difference. It Is a right good law
and as previously announced. Is
drastic. It makes It a misdemeanor
for any store to have cigarettes on
its shelves and a misdemeanor for
any person to sell cigarettes within
the borders of the state. Farther
than that, it prohibits the sale of cig
arette papers by any store, so that
the man who uses the hand-rolled
kind Is up against it as well as the
man who buys them In a ox ready
made.
At the present time men who want
to smoke cigarettes In Washington
are compelled to send out of the
state for them, or for papers with
which to make them, according to the
Oregon Idea,
It Is the Intention of Representa
t!ve McDonald to Introduce the
Washington law, or all of its essen
tial features at least, before the leg
islature. He would bar the men
from their smokes as welk as the
boys, though the chief object of the
bill Is to prevent the sale of cigar
ettes to boys.
It is expected that the effort to
pass the bill will be one of the inter
esting features of the coming ses
sion, as already different members
who have heard of it seem to favor
Its passage and say they will at least
not oppose It. The chief howl will
undoubtedly come from the tobacco
men, while various organizations will
rally to Its support. Walla Walla

What To Do.
There is comfort in the knowledge so
often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer's

pain in the back, kidneys, liver, bladder
and every part of the urinary passage.
It corrects inability to hold water
and scalding pain in passing it, or bud
effects following use of liquor, wine o'r
beer, and overcomes that unpleasant ne
cessity of being compelled to go often
during the day, and to get up many
times during the night. The mild and
the extraordinary effect of Swamp-iRoot
is soon realized. It stands the highest
for its wonderful cures of the most dis
tressing cases. If you need a medicine
you should have the best. Sold by drug

SHIPPED 14 CARS CHERRIES.
Grand Rontle Crop Is Unusually
neavy This Season.
Before the present week Is ended
the cherry harvest will be over, says
the La Grande Observer. Already
some of the busiest shippers of the
season are In a position to view the
end of the cherry season.
E. Z. Carbine, one of the most ex
tensive shippers of this end of the
valley this year, Is today sending out
two carloads of cherries from Cove.
Two more cars will be Shipped and
then the cherry season, as far as Mr.
Carbine Is concerned, will be at an
end.
His total shipments for the season
will amount to 14 carloads, which Is
two more than his original plans
called for.
Mr. Carbine and the other shippers
of the valley have been unable to se
cure extra express cars and were
forced to use refrigerator freight
cars for the shipment. Shipments of
fruit from a center like the Grand
Ronde valley, can never be made
with the least possible degree of loss
a:i long as there Is no way to pro
cure prompt transportation of com
modity. Attention, Asthma Sufferers.
