That the Alaxka wheat alleged to
have been discovered by a Jullaetta
Idaho, farmer Is a bit of "nature
faking" is now almout certain. The
government will Investigate- it. A let'
ter from Fort Collins, Col., says:
Alaska wheat, which professors at
Colorado Agricultural college say Is
practically the same as the "seven-
headed wonder" variety used to swin
dle years ago, will undergo investiga
tion at the hands of the United States
department of agriculture. Secretary
Wllsojf, who is In Colorado, will be
placed in possession of all Informa-
tlon relative to the variety, which was
announced to revolutionize wheat
growing In America.
It is probable also that the post
offlco department will be asked to
make an Investigation with a view to
determining the extent of the opera
tions of Abraham Adams of Julia
etta, Idaho, discoverer of the wheat,
which, according to the tests made In
the Colorado experiment station here
Is an exact duplicate of the Egyptian
seven-headed wonder.
Adams claimed a yield of 200 bush
els to the acre for the Alaska wonder.
The cample of his wheat planted
hero shows about SO bushels to the
acre, as near as can now be estlmat
ed, and the wheat grades No. 4.
Adams claims that It graded No. 1
hard.
Sells at $20 a Bushel.
Investigation develops that agencies
have been established at various
points for the sale of the seed of the
Alaska wheat at the rate of $20 a
bushel. A weekly newspaper of Den-
ver Is one of these agencies. In a re
cent Issue the following statement
was made:
"The editor has Just received a let
ter from Adams, and he Informed us
that he had disposed of his entire
crop of 1908 to an eastern syndicate,
for which he will receive about $2,-
000,000. But he reserved the
four states of Colorado, Utah, Wyom
ing and Kansas, which we were for
tunate to receive the agency for sev
eral months ago.
"The price will not bo less than
ICO per bushel, and only one bushel
will be sold to any one person, as the
to serure this .bent should send their
orders at once, and they will be reg
istered according to their arrival."
Other agencies are E. W. Tatlock,
Box 828, Salt Lake City, Utah; Lloyd
Evans,, agent for Kansas, at Dodge
City, and A. R. Whitley, 1610 Capital
avenue, Cheyenne. These agents ore
said to have been Innocently drawn
Into the seed selling business, the
commission being a tempting one and
the claims of the Idaho man being
so plausibly presented that he had no
difficulty In getting well-known men
to net for him.
Woman as Well as Men Are IM
miserable by Kidney and
Bladder Trouble.
Kidney trouble preys upon the mind,
discourages and lessens ambition ; beauty,
vigor ana cncerim
ness soon disappear
when tliekiilneyuare
out of order or dis
eased.
Kidney trouble has
become so prevalent
that it is not uncom
mon for a child to be
born afflicted with
weak kidneys. If the
chilil urinates toooften, if the urine scalds
the flesh, or if, when the child reaches an
Bge when it should be able to control the
passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wet
tins;, depend upon it, tliecuuse of the diffi
culty is kidney trouble, and the lirst
step should be towards the treatment of
thescMinportaiit organs. This unpleasant
trouble is due to a diseased condition of
the kidneys and bladder and not to a
habit as most people suppose.
Women as well us men are made miser
able with kidney and bladder trouble,
and both need the same great remedy.
The mild and the immediate effect of

pamphlet telling all about Swamp-Root,
including many of the thousands of testi
monial letters received from sufferers
cured. In writing Dr. Kilmer & Co.,
Binghamton, N, Y., be sure and mention
this paper. Don't make any mistake,
but remember the name, Swamp-Root,
Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, and the ad

bottle.
THE AMOUNT OF YOUR "BELIEF IN ADVERTISING" .WHICH IS PUT
INTO TYPE IS WHAT COUNTS.
There Is probably a clothing
ad in today's paper that will
remind you that your new suit
is overdue. Meet the ad "face
to face," and It will help you to
meet the clothes problem that
way.
If yu have lived too long In
one place, look at the furnished
rooms advertised today and
get a change of Bcene.
It won't pay you to try to deal
with a buyer who wants your
property only half as much as
"the right man" would want It
Any Quest by wheh you can
make a "new test" of want ad
vertising today? Think It over.
Tour store is NOT "big
enough," or prosperous enough,
unless your ambition and aspl
plratlons are under-sized.
There never was a day In any
calendar when adequate ad
vertising would do more for
your store than It will today.

A Siren Needed.
That the present fire alarm system
Is a failure, becomes more and more
evident, says the La Grande Observer.
I; Is time the city took some steps
to provide a more adequate alarm
system a step that could be taken at
a very small cost. The O. R. & N. of
flclals have already signified their
willingness to allow the attachment of
a siren at the power house In the lo
cal yards. There Is perpetual steam
In that building, and a fire at any
time of day or night could be given
proper alarm by the sounding of the
siren. Such an Instrument could be
heard far beyond the city limits. With
a strong wind blowing, the present
alarm system can be heard but a few
blocks In the directions from whence
the wind comes.
