Wlicro Is Boundary Lino?
A strip of lund about a quarter of
a mile In width and 18 miles In
lungth lies between Spokane and
Stevens counties, says the Spokane
Chronicle.
The title to It might be claimed
by either county, but neither can
prove possession.
The people living in this strip
have taken advantage of their pecu
liar condition, and many of them are
not paying " taxes in either county,
claiming when the assessor of Spo
kane county comes along that they
are residents of Stevens county, and
vice versa when the assessor happens
to hall from Stevens county.
What makes this possible Is tha.t
the boundary line between the two
counties Is so uncertain as to make It
Impossible for any one to say Just
where It Is.
When Spokane county was cut off
from Stevens county the legislative
enactment creating this county de
scribed the boundary In such a man
ner that the line dividing Spokane
county from Stevens county on the
west started from the Junction of the
Little Spokane river with the Spokane
river and thence ran north to the
township line between townships 29
and 30, thence east to the Idaho
line.
Shot In tho Hand.
Andrew Nlebergall, the 15-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nelber
gall, 618 North Sixth street, who re
ceived a painful gunshot wound In
the hand Sunday, Is getting along bet
ter than his physician at first ex
pected, says the Walla Walla Bulletin.
Young Nelbergall, with a few com
panions, was spending a few days In
camp near Meador park. He and
others of the party went out Sunday
for a hunt. He does not know what
happened to tho gun he was carrying,
but the first he knew of the acci
dent was a stream of blood running
from his hand. He was brought
home In an unconscious condition.
Tho attending physician found that
three fingers were badly lacerated,
and the little finger may have to be
amputated.
