Consequently, his return would

.Yesterday afternoon the Pendleton
ball. team again went down In defeat
at ;the hands of Jack O'Brien's ag
gregation and the tune of five to two
was i not pleasing to the bunch of fans
that had gathered In the bleachers In
hopes that Lorimer's men would
show imore speed.
The. game yesterday was won by La
Grande because the Pendleton play
era were not "In the game.'
Throughout the game there was a
uotloeatile lack of spirit in the team
and but ifew of the players worked
with the vim that was shown by the
La G-jande flayers.
In the box Aubln pitched a splen
did game., clearly outclassing his op
ponent. But he was handicapped by
i a bad ankle .which made It difficult
for him to field his position and to
run bases. Conrad was likewise good
behind the bat and was always In the
game. The same js true of Dean on
third, though the latter stays very
close to bis base.
But the rest of the team was bum
yesterday. Molly Baker at short
stop, played far back regardless of
what the butter was doing and his
work showed MP poorly compared
with that of the visiting short. Hous
ton was likewise weak at second.
Tracy Bakei", though a valuable man
on the team, has not done Conrad's
work at first and rfts batting average
has fallen down of lata.
To the fans In the bleachers it ap
pears that the local players are de
voting too much attention to their
individual records Instead of bending
all their energies to winning for the
team. This criticism Is probably un
just for Lorimer's players are all
good, clean fellows. But this Is a
sentiment which their recent playing
has created and It Is up to the team
to play It down If they want the loyal,
hearty support they have been get
ting in the past.
