IT CITKJLSSION
Young Woman Found in Awful Con
dition with Scabies Body a Mass
of Sores from Scratching Tried
Many Remedies for Seven Weeks
Result Was Discouraging, But
ITCHING TORTURES
YIELDED TO CUTICURA
"While I was doing missionary work
In the lower portion of several cities I
found It necessary to know a little of
the efficacy of a few medicines and
after a while I found that a little knowl
edge of Cuticura was about all I needed.
One of the very bad cases I had to deal
with was that of a young woman who
had come to us not only broken la
spirit but In a most awful condition
physically. Our doctor examined her
anil told us that she had scabies (the
Itch), Incipient paresis, rheumatism,
etc., brought on from exposure and the
effects of her ragged-edged life. Her
poor body was a mass of sores from
scratching and she was not able to
retain solid food. Wo tried many things,
a good tonic was prescriled and baths
with a nibbing of lard and sulphur. We
worked hard for seven weeks and you
can Imagine how discouraged we were
when, after all that time, we could see
go little improvement. One day I hap
pened to see a Cuticura advertisement
telling how a little baby had been
cured of a bad case of skin eruption,
and although I had but ninety-seven
cents with me, I bought a cake of Cuti
cura Soap and a bottle of Cuticura
Resolvent. When I reached home I
was like a child with a new toy, and we
bathed our patient well and gave her a
full dose of the Uesolvent. She Blept
that night better than she had since
she had been with us and the next day
I located the price of a box of Cuticura
Ointment. I am not exaggerating
when I say that ia exactly five weeks
this young woman was able to look for
a position, being strong enough to work
and full of ambition. In another
month she left the home, and now has
a good position In a nice family where
she Is respected and is strong and well.
You may refer any one you wish to me,
personally. Laura Jane Bates, 85

P. E. Weston, an expert sent to this
place by the Holt Manufacturing Co.
f Stockton, Calif, to pass upon the
practicability of the traction freight
ng project between this place" and
Shaniko, returned to Stockton the last
f the week, says the Madras Pioneer.

xamlnation of the roads bctweken
hanlko and Madras, and before leav-
ig stated that within a week the
company would definitely announce
their decision on making a second
rial trip out of Shaniko with a big
freight train.
Mr. L. B. Lnfollette of Prlnevllle,
one of tho promoters of tho enter

Ips over the road, and It Is generally
elleved here that a favorable report

Returning from Malheur county,
Dr. V. H. Lytic, state sheep Inspec
tor, brought with him several speci
mens of the poisonous camas root
that has been raising havoc among
Malhuur county sheep. The weed Is
very similar In form to an onion, bui
It has a wellowish hue. It grows in
high altitudes, never being found at
u height of less than 4 000 feet and It
has been spreading to a considerable
extent In Malheur county.
According to Dr. Lytle, it is Im
possible to make any efectlve fight
against the weed, but there Is an an
t'dote which he has advised stockmen
to use In cases where sheep, cattle or
horses have been poisoned by eating
camas. For sheep the antidote con
sists of from five to seven grains of
potassium permangenate dissolved In
four ounces of water.
In a certain section of Wyoming the
poison camas has become so prevalent
that sheepralsers have ben foiced to
tibandon the ranges of that' particular
Section.
