Mrs. Sarah Stagg of Weston, died yesterday at t. Mary's hospital in Walla Walla. The deceased had had dropsy of the heart for some time, and recently she was taken to Walla Walla for treatment. Mrs. Stagg was born In Missouri, December .21, 1835. In 1878 she moved with her husband to Weston, where she has lived ever since. Her husband, Alfred Stagg. died .three years ago. She Is survived by two daughters, Miss Martha Stagg, Mrs. Ellen Duncan and a brother. She was well known In the Weston coun try, where she lived for so many years and had" many warm friends. The remains have been shipped from Walla Walla and the funeral will be held tomorrow. Patton Will Be Cut with Combined Harvester on July 8 Other Machines Will Start Next Week. The first threshing to be done in Umatilla county this season will be done by John Mulr on the farm of R. H. Patton, on McKay creek, next Monday morning, July 8. Mr. Patton has about 180 acres of barley which will yield. It Is est! mated, from 40 to 50 bushels per acre, and he has contracted with Mr. Mulr to begin cutting it with a com. blned harvester on the date mention ed. Other harvesters will be started on that day It Is thought, but Mr, Mulr nopes to turn the first wheel In the season of 1907. All the gruln the the foothill coun try In the south part of the county is exceptionally good this year, the barley crop being especially good. Mr. Patton has 200 acres of wheat on Birch creek which promises to yield well this season, It being the first heavy crop to be grown on this tract of land. R. re union held at Newberg last week, Councilman B. F. Renn met a mem ber of his old company whom he had not seen since the days when the troops were mustered out at the close of the civil war. Both men were en listed in the ninth Iowa Infantry, and while he was at the recent encamp ment Mr. Renn chanced to catch sight of the old regimental insignia upon the lapel of his comrade's coat Ac quaintance was then renewed and he found that his former comrade lives at Brownsville, Linn county. He had kept In touch with many of the sur viving members of the company, and the two men found much of interest to talk about. The Pendleton veterans who at tended the O. A. R. reunion returned home from Newberg yesterday morn ing. They report having had a very pleasant time at the reunion. Will Teach at Beaverton. Miss Flora Walker left Sunday for Salem, where she will attend the State Teachers' association. From that place she will go to Beaverton, where she will teach English, mathe matics and physics in St. Mary's academy (Catholic) during the sum mer. From Beaverton she will go to Independence, to resume during the coming school year the position In the public schools which she occu pled last year.
