Athena, June 18. Attorney Wm. M. Peterson has left Athena to locate In Pendleton. Attorney S. F. Wilson, a recent arrival from Carolina, will take charge of the Athena office. Here after the firm of Peterson, Peterson & Wilson will have offices at Pendle 'ton, Athena and Milton, In Umatilla county. Action in Justice Court. Conrad Platzoeder has brought ac tion in Justice Richards' court against George Kidder to collect the sum of 197 for meats sold to him for family use. To Erect Warehouse. The Gillis brothers of this place have taken a contract to erect a large warehouse at Stanton station,' near here, for the Puget Sound Warehouse company. This building will be 50 by ISO feet. The company's old ware house was burned down some weeks go. Moses Taylor has just purchased a half section of land from Charles R. Brown, near here, for (13,000. A number of people In this section are talking of going to Portland dur ing the rose show In the next 10 days. Weston and Athena was well rep resented at the opening ball at Bing ham Springs Saturday night. Many went up on horseback, reporting a rery enjoyable trip. Unveiling Ceremonies. A large number of Athena people attended the unveiling ceremonies held at the grave of the late Mrs. Charles Booher, under the auspices of Athena circle Women of Woodcraft No. 10, Sunday afternoon. The Walla Walla Traction company has started work on the loop which is to be constructed In this city, several men being at work at this time. The loop will take the cars around by Nichols park, which will be a great convenience to the people of Walla Walla and others de siring to spend a clay at the park.' At piffent It is nearly a half mile from thf end of the pne to tin park. No Speculation In Coal Land. The Canadian government has adopted stringent regulations to pre vent coal lands in the Yukon from being held for speculative purposes, says an Ottawa dispatch. Leases for coal-mlnlng rights will be granted for 21 years at an annual rental of tl an acre, payable In advance. No applicant shall be allowed to lease more than an area of 2660 acres. The tract must be contiguous, and the area shall not exceed four miles In Its greatest dimensions. Applica tions are to be made through the Dominion land agents or a subagent of the district. The crooks are likely to fight shy of the James town exposition this week, for among the visitors there are chiefs of police of all the big cities of the country and the governors of the national bu reau of criminal Identification as well. The occasion is the annual con vention of the International Associa tion of Chiefs of Police, which began Its sessions today in 'the exposition auditorium, Chief Richard Sylvester, of Washington, D. C, presiding. One of the questions to be discuss ed by the association la the proposal to have keepers of prisons notify tho association of the discharge of pris oners, the object being to assist the departments In keeping track of dis charged prisoners.
