Mrs. Haldane Dickson of Portland, arrived In Pendleton yesterday for a visit of a week with her mother, Mrs. N. K. Despala. Harold J. Warner left todnv for Kcho, where he will remain during the summer In the reclamation service under Mr. King. Mrs. W. R. Ellis returned 'today from La Grande, where she has been for a few days at the home of A. A. Roberts and family. Mrs. Fred Donnldson and sister, Miss Elsie Matlock, have Issued Invi tntlons for cards on next Tuesday and Wednesdny afternoon. I j Mrs. Anna Selkirk-Norton will be hostess on next Thursday afternoon at luncheon the second of a series which she will give. Miss Mable Cameron of Portland, who has been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Robert Fletcher, will return home next week. Mrs. William Matlock will leave to morrow for Portland, where she will secure a furnished home for the sum mer. Mrs. Fred Lnatz and children .will Join her In a couple of weeks. Mrs. Edward Bnumelster of Asotin, Wash., will arrive In Pendleton r,xt week to be the gueBt of Mrs. J. P. Ford of Pomeroy, who has been the guest of Mra. Mary Rit- ner, will leave for her home on Mon day. Mra. J. H. Mitchell received a tele gram thla week from Butte, Mont. announcing the death of Mrs. W. S. Cobban, who was a visitor In Pendle ton a few months ago, the guest of Mrs. Mitchell. The last dance of a-series given by the Eagles' band, occurred on WedneS' day evening. There was not the large attendance aa at (ormer dances, but thOBe who went report a most enjoy able time, as the evening was a per fect one for dancing. Hoping that a change of altitude would benefit Mrs. A. A. Roberts, of La Grande, who has been critically 111 for so long, she was brought to Pen dleton today under the care of her nurse ,M!ss Gllmore, Mr. Roberts and Mrs. E. A. VauRhan, and Is at present resting comfortably at the home of Mrs. Thomas Ayers. The Monday Duplicate Whlgt club was pleasantly entertained this week nt the home of Mrs. Alice Sheridan. Mrs. Frank Frazler and Mrs. Thomas Warner were awarded prizes for scor ing the greatest number of points. Starkweather entertain ed a small company at "500" on Tues- . day evening. The prizes for points were awarded to Mra. William Skllea and Mrs. Monte Gwlnn. The Invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Mitch ell, Mrs. Harry Thompson, Mrs, Dean Tatom, Mrs. G. W. Phelps, Mrs. Frank Hayes, Miss Faye Bartholomew and Miss Bertha Alexander. Mrs. Anna Selkirk-Norton gave two small companies this week that were thoroughly enjoyed by those present, as Mrs. Norton Is one of Pendelton's most hospitable entertainers. One evening of the week waa devoted to the young people the Invited guests being Miss Faye Bartholomew, Miss Bertha Alexander, Miss Eva Froome, Mr. Fred Lampkin, Mr. Roy Alexan der, Mr. D. Ball of Walla Walla, and Mr. Bartlett of Hermlston. On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Norton en tertained at a luncheon In honor of Mrs. J.'R. Dickson, who will soon leave for the east. The guests were Mrs. Leon Cohen, Mrs. Fred Judd, Mrs. E. P. Marshall and Mrs. J. R. Dickson. The closing event of the high school festlvitjes waa the banquet given last evening after the commencement ex erclBes, by the Alpha Psl fraternity, at the St. George restaurant. A most appetizing menu was served and good humor prevailed. Plntes were laid for 30, which Included both active and honorary members. The table decora tions were In red carnations and green foliage rd and green being the fraternity colors. The following toaata were given: "Our Officers," Lester Means; "Our Future Pros pects," Harold J. Warner; "Our Hon orary Members," Arthur Means; "Our Fraternity," Dan P. Smythe. Creasy Sturgls presided as toastmaster. '' The following Item was clipped from the Astoria Budget: "A very pretty and quiet home wedding was solemniz ed shortly after 4 o'clock this after noon, when Mr. Charles E. Gray, for merly of this city, but now one of the leading merchants of Pendleton, and Miss Gertrude Berry, the pretty and accomplished daughter of Mrs. A. W. Berry, were married at the residence of the bride's mother. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John War ren, of Grace Episcopal church, only the Immediate relatives of the con tracting parties being present. Mr. and Mrs. Gray will leave on this even ing's train for Pendleton, where they will make their future home." Mr. and Mrs. Gray will occupy the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hartman until their return from the east. There will be an exodus of Pendie tonlans for the east on and about June 1.
