SIXTY PEOPLE TO ATHENA.
Attending Last Sessions of Caledonian
Picnic.
Sixty people left here this morn'ng
to attend the annual Caledonian pic
nic, which will be held at Athena to
day and tomorrow and which promises
to eclipse any former gathering of
that society that has been held for
several years.
The program presents a long list of
Interesting and not often seen Scotch
amusements. There will be reels,
sword dances, strathspeys and dnnces
to the tune of the bagpipes. The lads
and lassies will be entertained by a
large number of prize athletic events.
Prizes will be also given to those
wearing the best Highland costume
and thoes clothed In the Scotland garb
will add much to the plcturesqueness
of the day.
Addresses will be made by Con
gressman Ellis, ex-Governor Geer,
Judge Lowell and Judge Cameron of
the Portland municipal court.

lem this morning. He stopped over
a day In Portland and attended the
convention of the Knights of Pythias.
L. M. Watrus came In, from Cam
bridge, Idaho, this morning, where
he Is farming 200 acres of alfalfa
land. Mr. Watrus' home was for
merly In Adams.
Conductor W. H. Kelsay of the
Portland-Pendleton passenger run on
the O. R. ft N., is confined to his
home on South Thompson street with

daughter was born last evening to
Mr. and Mrs. dernld Tuttle, formerly
of this city, now residing at Doer

merly Miss Myrtle Smith of this city
and Mr. Tuttle was employed In the
Pendleton drug storo before moving to
Washington. He Is now engaged in
the drug business at Deer Park.

Last Services Next Sunday.
The last public services to be held
In the Thompson street M. E. church
will be conducted next Sunday, May
26. On Sunday, June 2 the new
church will be dedicated and will be
used thereafter for the regular serv
ices although It will perhaps not be
entirely completed. Rev. I. B. Tall
man will conduct the morning servi
ces next Sunday and Rev. Robert
Warner will conduct the evening ser
vice. This building has served the M.
E. church congregation for the past
35 years and the services on next Sun
day will be In the nature of a fare
well or leave-taking service.

W. O. Hodder, the well known car
penter and contractor of this city, who
Is now located on a homestead In Har
ney countv, arrived home last evening
to move his fnmtly to the new home
In the Interior. Mr. Hodder und sons
have a section of lnnd five miles from
the survey of the new railroad through
central Oregon and are well pleased
with that country. Last month 75
homestead entries were made In the
Burns lnnd offlre and settlors are
rushing In In large numbers.

PROGRESS TOWARD JURY.

San Francisco, May 2. Consider
able progress was made tbla morn
ing toward securing a Schuiltz Jury.
Before the noon adjournment three
were temporarily passed by both
sides. Interest is increasing as the
completion of the Jury approaches. A
number of women were in court to
day. Although only four Jurors have
passed, both sides expect a complete
Jury by Monday morning at which
time witnesses have been notified to
appear.
