COOPER TO PILOT ROCK. Illlnd rtircmologtst Who Has Rare Attainments. An agreeable surprise this week to many people has been Prof. V. B. Cooper, the blind phrenologist who by strictly sctentlfij methods Is an astonishingly accurate reader of char acter. Phrenology U never regarded as guesswork or charlatanry by peo. pie who have either listened to Prof. Cooper's lectures or heard him de scribe character either at his lectures or privately. Phrenology Is an actual science capable of demonstration and Illustration, and no further proof of this assertion Is needed than to give Prof. Cooper an opportunity to dem onstrate and illustrate upon yourself or some friend. Men and women have met him In Pendleton during the past week who never heard of him before and who know he never heard of them, who are saying today that he described their characters better than the sub jects themselves possibly could, or their beBt friends either. He Is, more over, an educated Christian gentle man without the slightest trace of the boer or fakir, and he travels strictly upon his merits, asking no odds be cause of his total blindness. . The writer is reminded that some years ago, following a lecture by Prof. Cooper In the Unitarian church at Portland, that tHe Portland Oregonlan without solicitation and wholly with out remuneration, gave the lecture and the public phrenological exami nations afterward, a column and S quarter laudatory review, among other things saying that It was a remarka ble performance even had it been ex ecuted by a person with unimpaired vision. Prof. Cooper is nearly through In Pendleton and goes to Pilot Rock next Monday, to lecture there Monday night He lectured in Pendleton three nights this week at the Christian church, having his office at tho Gol den Rule hotel. LA IH'K AWARDED THE RACE. Dissatisfaction at the Announced Re sult of the 25-Lap Skate. Lest night the Ireland skating rink was filled with the largest crowd that has been out since the opening of the popular establishment'. T'-e occasion of the unusual attendance last night was a 25-lap sprint, and those entered were Messrs. Ladue, Harry Drake, Ernest Corby and John HcFadden. The race was won by Ladue, who fin ished a half lap ahead of Drake, while McFadden and Corby were a lap be hind. While Ladue was awarded the vic tory, many spectators favored Drake, who was handicapped In the race by being "pocketed" by two of his oppo nents. It is understood that In the near future a race will be pulled off between Ladue and Drake alone. W1U Preach In Walla Walla. Rev. I. B.
