The sheep owners of California are considerably exercised over the fact that Governor Glllett has not yet ap pointed a state board of sheep com missioners, as provided for In the as sembly bill No. 809. passed nt the last session and which became a law by his signature, says a Sacramento dispatch. The bill, provides for the appoint ment by the governor of five wool- growers residing In different counties of the state, who, with the state vet erinarian shall comprise the state board, and shall receive $600 per year and expenses. The board Is empow ered to appoint a secretary at a salary of $1000 per year, and necessary In spectors, who shall be paid $5 pel day while at work. To defray the expense of this work, the bill further provides that the board of supervisors In each county of the state shall levy a tax of 1 cent on every dollar of assessed valuation of the sheep in, their respective coun ties, this to be collected and turned Into the state treasury to be kept In a separate fund to be known as the "Sheep Inspection Fund."
