Vaughan has been honored by being chosen ns one of the dele gates from this state to the National Dental association meeting which Is to be held at Jamestown In September. The state convention was held In Port land on May 2, 3. and 4, and Dr. Vaughan returned home yesterday after having attended the same. Four delegates to the national convention were chosen from this state, Dr. Vaughan being one of the number. Aside from his position as national representative from this state. Dr. Vaughan also holds an enviable posi tion upon the state board of dental examiners, being now president of that body. Six hundred boiler makers are on strike at Chicago for 62 1-2 cents an hour. Last evening the Ireland akatlng rink was once more well patronized by those who have become fascinated with, the pleasures of roller skating. Since the opening of the enlarged rink a week ago the place has been crawded almost nightly and with Iohnon's orchestra playing every night the place has enjoyed a splen? did business. McAllister of the Pendleton Drug company, left this morning for Walla Walla on a few days' visit. Rev. E. B. Hays and family of La Grande, have been visiting In the city and are stopping at the Golden Rule. Moses Taylor, recently pardoned from the penitentiary by Governor Chamberlain, has been In the city today. Postmaster W. M. Smead of Hepp ner, arrived In the city last evening to attend the Woodmen convention tomorrow. C. E. Cochran, a well known attor ney of La Grande, came over last night to-attend the session of the su preme court. Mrs. E. P. Dodd left for her home at Hermlston this morning, after a few days' visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Alexander. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Troutman left today on the westbound train for Ab erdeen, Wash., after having visited here for several days past. - Charles Fish man. formerly a pro prietor of the Pendleton laundry, went to Walla Walla this morning and will be engaged tn the laundry business there. Mayor L. J. Davis of Union, left for his home this evening after attending the session of circuit court here yes terday and today. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Winslow, par ents of Winslow brothers of this city, are expected here this evening to vis It for a few wepks with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Winslow. J. G. Calllson, manager of the Balfour-Guthrie company at Echo, re turned to that place today after hav ing attended the Knights of Pythias social last evening. Will F. Hessian, now advertising manager on the Lewlston Evening Tel ler, has been spending a couple of days at his home In this city and left for Lewlston today. Marion F. Davis, grand chancellor of Oregon In the order of Knights of Pythias, has been here today from his home at Union, having come over to attend the Woodmen convention tomorrow. W. R. Fletcher, foreman of the fencing gang on the O. R. & N., will leave with his outfit cars tomorrow oi next day for Coeur d'Alene, where he will be employed during the entire summer in making fence and fcnee repairs. Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Brashera of Lewlston, Idaho, visited here yester day as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. Hunter. Mr. Brashers Is a grocery man who recently disposed of his business In Lewlston and Is now bound for Ncih Yakima. Ed Stansberry has returned from Independence, Ore., where he went to attend the funeral of his brother, Joseph Stansberry, which occurred last Thursday. Joseph Stansberry, who met death In an accident near Hatton, Wash., last week, left here less than a year ago and was well known here. Surveying Reclamation Project, We have been Informed that a crew of sixteen surveyors will be In this co-nty this week to commence work for the reservoir and water system for the Irrigation of the Wil low creek valley. The surveyors It If reported are sent out by the Cht.stlan Federation. The two head men tn charge of the work are to arrive here today. If this report proves to be true, It will lead us to believe the federation Intends to commence work on the Irrigation work up Willow creek at once. Let the good work go on. Vale Oriano.
