Fearing that the plan proposed by Nnrhos City of dumping Its sewage Into the Naches river might result In j pollution of the drinKlng water oi North Yakima, Dr. Thomas Tetreau, the city health officer and county physician, called upon the county commissioners this morning to pre vent the adoption of this means of dispose 1 of refuse. The county au . thorltles will be asked to pass a res olution forbidding Naches City from carrying out Its present plans. If thece means full, a legal contest be tween the two cities will probably result If It is shown that the menace to health here Is great The means of getting rid of Its sewage Is understood to have puzsled Naches City for some time. The scheme of utilising the canal of the power house passed popular approval but was vetoed by the owners of the power house. Attention was then called to the river as offering an exit for the waste materials. Plans are now under way and near comple tion, It Is understood, to have pipes run under the water through which sewage will be passed. Yakima Re public. Anotlior View of Responsibility. While some of our people profess to he alarmed lest the water supply of this city be, polluted by the sew age from Naches City, we do not hear any of them urging the authori ties to provide against the contami nation of the water supply of several towns below here by the sewage from North Yakima, which Is dumped In to the river. The Republic has al ways contended that It Is a duty which North Yakima owes to the lower country to make some other disposition of the contents of its sewage. Legally we may have a right to endanger the health and lives of thousands of people below here. Ordinarily considerations of humanity would dictate that If we have such a right we ought not to exercise It, but should make all possi ble haste to so dispose of the sewage that no complaint can be made ngalnst us. Ynklma Republic cashed a check at the First National bank for 1125. Three days before he cashed a check at the same bank for 3150. These two drafts on his de posit practically wiped out his ac count at the bank, leaving but 42 cents. James Roy says that he slept with Wlllmon on the night of March 7, the night before he cashed his check at the First National bank for 3)50. He saw him again In the city at the Sherman bar along about the 10th or 11th of the month, but no one has been found who remembers having laid eyes on Wlllmon later than the 11th, "the day he received the 3125 from the bank. Jack Wlllmon lived on the banks of the Columbia river near Priest Rapids. He and his wife owned 200 acres of land there, and were doing well farming. He came to this country from Alberta, B. C, live years ago and took up a homestead on the Columbia. It was there that he met Miss Anna Fisher, a trained nurse from Boston, who had come west and had been -induced to tile on a desert claim. His wife Is on the verge of a breakdown as a result of her hus- band's mysterious disappearance. Wlllmon has not been seen In this city snce March 11. On that day he Irrigation Company's New Deal. The disposition on the part of the bondholders and former stock holders to carry out the undertnk Ing as originally provided for In the contract Is expected to bring about nil onrly adjustment of the difficul ties. Ross, chief engineer of the government reclamation projects in this state, will leave today for Ru pert, to look over the work to be done on the Minidoka project James O. Camp, who has been with the reclamation service for four years, was sent down two days ago, to take charge of the maintenance and service of the canal. Good progress Is being made In getting water through the canal. The main canals are practically ready for use, to cover 80,000 acres under the gravity system. Orman & Cook, the contractors In charge of the work, arc bringing to a close the concrete construction along the canal head- gates, dams and other structures. Concrete to the amount of 20,000 barrels has already been used for all the works In contact with the soil, nnd steel and Iron also enter largely It to the structures, the gates being made of cast steel or Iron. Bridge piers and diversion works of all kinds are concrete along the main canal. Boise Statesman. Mr. S. L. Powen. of Wayne, W. Va., writes:. The formal engineer's plats yester day were filed with County Clerk Combs, dedicating the new town of Copperflcld, eight miles above Bal lard md near the Ox Bow tunnel company's camp on Snake river. The plat shows the reservoir site, hotel sites, electric railway proposed line and the Snake river railroad. J. H. Graham states there Is one small ho tel there now where good meals can be had for 50 cents and beds for 50 cents, and when the place Is over crowded there is a. good barn near by where shakedowns are made for 60 cents.
