A great many Idahoans, especially thope who have displayed as much pride In the Northwest Magazine as Its publisher. Blaine Phillips, will be sorry to hear that the publication has sus pended. It has ever been a source of astonishment to newspaper men that Phillips kept the publication alive as long as he did, primarily because In character it was 10 years ahead of the territory and, secondarily, because he mnde no secret of the fnct that he had no capltnl. It can safely be sold that Blaine will retire with honor from the publishing field. Arrangements have been made with the Chappie Publishing company of Boston, who will fill out the 2300 un expired subscriptions with Joe Mitch ell Chappie's National Magazine. Phillips, while naturally crestfallen, retains his hearty laugh and his belief In the state. Of the suspension of the magazine he says: "I haven't failed. The thing was difficult, consequently worth while, and for that reason I undertook It. The experience was of course costly, but at the same time, immeasurably profit able, because I have seen tne Deuer part of southern Idaho, learned much of Its resources and possibilities, and am moro than ever enthusiastic." As soon as he can arrange to go away Blnlne is going to Mllner, where he will remain for a month writing about the Twin Falls North Side pro ject. Upon the completion of three articles he will commence the publi cation of special Industrial editions for the state papers, In all probability commencing at Twin Falls. In addi tion he Is to do some staff work for Mr. Chappie. Boise Capital News. 180,000 Acres 0wn April 29. Yesterday the surveyors locating a line for the proposed main line of the Oregon Short Line from Orchard through Boise, located a point, which Is to be put on the map, showing the survey, as the point offering the best advantages for a place to build a bridge across the Boise river. This point Is a' few hundred feet above the Buckley ranch, which is about a mile above the Natatorlum. It Is al most directly opposite a point where there is a sharp turn In the spur from this city to the Barber dam, and only a short distance above the high way makes a sharp turn going to the dam. This is the point where the line. If built, would cross and connect with the spur to the Barber mill, bringing the trains Into BoIbs. It is the estimate of the surveyors that to cross the stream at mis point will require the construction of a h,M atinvf, sno feet lone: over the main stream and a bridge about 100 feet In length across the cannl, wnicn Is quite wide at this point. noise Statesman.
