Ms ABANDONED ASSOCIATION FRAZKR THEATER HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY BLACKLISTED. According to the Unequivocal State ment of John Cort, General Mana get of the Northwestern Theatrical Association In a Letter to the East Orejronlan He Suggests a Local Combination of Capital to Build a New Playhouse No More Attrac tions, Till "Something Is Done." To add to the" already deep humil iation of this city because of Its de fective theater, comes the news that the Northwestern Theatrical associa tion has orders to book no more at tractions here this year because of the poor accommodations. Conse quently It seems Pendleton would have been without shows had not the thea ter been given up by its tenants and condemned by the fire chief. In the following letter to the East Oregonlan John Cort, general manager of the Northwestern Theatrical Assoc'atlon, gives his views of the situation here: Seattle. Wash.. March 28, 1907. Editor East Oregonlan, Pendleton, Or. Dear Sir: Replying to yours of March 21. I am sorry to Inform you that the association has been notified bv the New York office not to book anv more attractions In Pendleton for the comlnir venr on amount of the poor accommodation that you have to give the companies at that point. Of course I realize that your best cit izens will not go into thnt theater ex cept when they really have to. I cannot understand why such a city the size of Pendleton, Ore., does not get together and with the promi nent citizens form a club, get seven or eight men to put In $5000 apiece and give Pendleton such a theater as they should have. Your town can well afford to build a new theater on modern plans, and I believe If the matter is presented to your people In the proper way, something can be done. I am In receipt of a telegram from Mr. Taylor today saying that the thea ter has now been condemned; of course this does away with theatrical companies playing Pendleton at all un til you have a new theater. Anything that I can do to further advise you on this proposition, will be only too glad to do so. I will state that If your people build a new thea ter at Pendleton I will see that they get all the first-class shows that play the Short Line. Yours truly, JOHN CORT. GAMES WITH WALLA WALLA. na-ehall Magnates Will Confer With Ciarden City Players Tomorrow.
