The bench land has been found to have water that can be reached, and windmill irrigation Is not a failure, declares the Vale Oriano. There are experimental farms in the dry regions of the central west that are using windmill irrigation and reports have come from these sections that irriga tion has proven successful. If such Is the case, and we have no reason to doubt It, even if dry farming should be a failure, which we do not be lieve will be the case, a small amount of water by windmill Irrigation would produce the results that a few more inches of rainfall would produce. To understand the conditions thor oughly In this county, the homeseeker should know that the Malheur valley alone has about 60 sections of land that U not reached by water nor is farmed at all by the present method of farming. In the Snake river valley there Is about 65 sections In the same conditions, in the Owyhee valley 44 sections, in the Willow creek valley, 129 sections. In the upper Willow and Cow valleys about 44 sections, in Bul ly and Clover creek about five sec tions, or about 392 sections In all, or a total of something near 260,000 acres of unappropriated land that Is first-class soli and should produce ex cellent crops. , There Is estimated to be 9534 head of horses, 34.393 head of cattle, 183. 930 head of sheep and goats, 770 bee hives, and 160 head of hogs In the country. "Sunday night a man died In the room adjoining the one occupied by Snyder, and an undertaker was no t'fled to take charge of the body. He called at the lodging house with the paraphernalia of his craft, placed the shroud and 'dead' basket by the side of the bed and was about to proceed In the usual business-like manner to perform his duty. "There was on the bed, lying rig Id on his back, a pallid, emaciated form. The undertaker removed the covering and started to wrap the body In the sheet That's what woke Snyder up. It was an even break as to which of the twowas the more frightened. In an Instant, however, the convalescent's fear changed to Indignation, and he exclaimed: 'Here, you are a trifle ahead of schedule time.
