A. boys and to help them along. From here he went to Idaho for a short visit. He paid high tribute to the manly worth of Rena Hutch inson, who was murdered In Spokane a few months ago. He said Reno Hutchinson was not only an athlete, a good student, a social mixer and a business man, but he was also a Christian. He was one of the best ends that ever played in the football team of the University of California. No Reason Exists for Calling It "Dry Fanning." H. W. Campbell, the man who is responsible for all this dry farming bombast, says that the system Is real ly misnamed. It should really be call ed wet farming, for plenty of moisture is secured wherever the system Is ap plied. "We have a number of farms In different sections of the dry coun tries." he says, "but no drouth Is visi ble on any of them." The Campbell system, as It is called, Is scientific soil culture and Is not so complex as It has been made to ap pear In attempted descriptions. It Is not a scheme that owing to Its com plexity can only be applied to a garden spot. It cam be used on a quarter or half section farm with little If any more expense to labor and machinery than Is required to cultivate the same mount of ground In Illinois or Indi ana. The pnncpies appicu i eastern farm that we use on our ex periment farms in Colorado would greatly Increase the yield from those farms. Field and Farm. RAILROAD SIGN LANGUAGE. Japanese Laborers on O. R. & N Trucks Learn 'Directions In Unique Way. It being often difficult for the white section foreman to teach late ly-arrived Japanese section hands the directions or points of the com pass by tne nam-;s, east or west, they are forced to report to unique meas lire? of niak'ns themselves under1 stood. For Instance a section foreman on the Mountain division of the O. R. N., having a "green crew" of Japs, none of whom could speak or under stand English, could not make the know which way to drive the rail by the words "east" or "west" In fix Ing the track. For a week he puz zled his mind over a means of teach Ing the Japs the directions, as It was necessary to say which direction drive rails, when It was often Im possible to make tlgns. Hy chance he learned that th Japs knew in which way lay Idaho, and they also knew where Portland was situated and so he decided tench them by these words to know the directions. When he wanted to drive a ra east he would yell "Ida-HO" to the crew and Immediately the entl force would respond to his com mand. If the rail was driven too far east and It was necessary to drive back a bit, he would shout "Port LAND,-' and again tho Japs would wheel about and drive the rail west, and so by these two words he com manded his little army of "green Japs until they learned the English wcrds. yip KING OF THROAT AND LUNG REM EOBES FOR COUGHS AND COLDS CURES hl THROAT -LUNG DISEASES SAVED HER SON'S UFE My son Rex was taken down a year ago with lung trouble.
