London, Feb. 15. No announce
ment of a scientific discovery In a
number of years has created more
public Interest than the news that the
experiments Inaugurated hy the dis
tinguished scientist, Sir William
Crookes, to obtain nitric acid from
the atmosphere had been crowned
with success. The discovery means
the assurance of dally bread for gen
erations yet unborn.
Wheat chief source of the staple
food of man requires that It may
grow abundantly, nitrogen In the soil.
If the nitrogen Is used up it must ne
replaced, or the wheat crop falls.
Hitherto the soda-nitrate deposits of
South America have been the princi
pal sources of the replenlslng agent.
They are, however, not quite adequate
for the world's needs, and In another
quarter of a century will be complete
ly exhausted. If the nitrogenous fer
tilizer failed, no Increase in the area
of wheat-growing lands could stave
off eventual starvation.
But with the discovery of Sir Wil
liam Crookes that concentrated nitric
acid can be made from the nitrogen
In the air, on a commercial scale, the
prospect of the soda-nitrate deposits
becoming exhausted Is no longer a
cause for alarm.

CUTICURA REMEDIES
A PERFECT SUCCESS
"I wish to let you know that I have
used one set of Cuticura Remedies
one cake of Cuticura Soap, one box of
Cuticura, but two vials of Cuticura
Resolvent Pills which cost me a
dollar and twenty-five cents in all. For
a year I have had what they call eczema.
I had an itching all over my body, and
when I would retire for the night it
would keep me awake half the night,
and the more I would scratch, the more
it would itch. I tried all kinds of rem
edies, but could get no relief. A friend
of mine told me to try the Cuticura
Remedies which I did, and am very
glad I tried them, for I was completely
cured. If any of my friends should
be troubled with the same disease, I
will cheerfully recommend the Cuticura
Remedies, and if I know any one who
wants to know how I cured myself, I
shall be glad to tell them. Walter W.

America is a nation
of dyspeptics
The use of lard in cooking is the main
cause. For your own protection you should
divorce yourself from all food cooked with
lard. Instead, use Cottolene, the purest and
most palatable shortening possible to produce.
Cottolene is made from refined vegetable oil
and choice beef suet, is full of richness, yet
free from dyspepsia.
It will give you better food, and food
which will agree with you.
Cotiolene is never sold in bulk. It comes
in sealed white pails, with red label and band.
In the center of the label is our trade mark
a steer's head in cotton plant wreath. Cotio
lene ia not exposed to all the odors which
surround it; lard is, because it usually comes
in bulk.
The quality of Cotiolene is guaranteed. We
stand behind it. You take no chances in
its use.
Forstall dyspepsia by the use of Cottolene.
Any good grocer will supply you.
A thorough trial of Cottolene will make you
wonder why you stuck
to hog lard so long.
COTTOLENE was granted a GRAND PRIZE (highest
possible award) over all other cooking fats at the
recent Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and food cooked
with COTTOLENE another GRAND PRIZE.
