S26 MAIN STREET. MISS Athena, Jan. SI. The second death from scarlet fever In Athena this win ter occurred Sunday morning when of going Roma, -the 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Kemp passed away after three dnys' Illness. The quar antine "had been lifted from the Kemp home a few days, when the eldest daughter recovered. Thursday little Roma became 111 and Friday morning the family home was again quaran tined. The little one was delicate and frail and was 111 only 43 hours when she passed away. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, services be ing held at the grave by V. E. Hoven of the Christian church. The family has the heartfelt sympathy of the community. The Athena Truck company recent ly unloaded the last of a consignment of Ice from the North Powder ponds. The Ice received this season Is of su perior quality. visions for the Mrs. O. G. Chamberlain and two oung sons have returned from a Islt to relatives In Waltsburg. Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Smith have re- urned to Waitsburg. Wash., after spending some time In this city. Snow Appreciated. Ten Inches of snow fell at this place since Sunday last. This Is the heav iest snow that has fallen here for 10 ears. Suit for Divorce. . Mrs. Mattle Hendren, through her attorneys, Peterson Sc Peterson, has filed a suit for divorce on the grounds of cruelty. They have been married six years and have one child, who has been adopted by Mia. Hendren's brother, W. C. SteKlnney. One Case of Fever. At present there Is but one case of scarlet fever In the city. The basket ball game last Friday night resulted In a score of 28 to 15 In favor of the second team against the third team; and the score last night was 13 to 10 In favor of the first team against the third.
