From an authoritative source It Is learned that within a very short time Bnker City Is to be the northern ter minus of a (treat railroad running south from this city to Nevada where It will connect with the Western Pa cific and become a part or the Gould trnns-coiitlnental systam. This is to be done by D. S. Taggnrt of Salt Lake, who hns secured an option' on the Ne-vadn-Callfornla-Oregon railway and will connect it with the Sumptcr Val ley road. According to the plans as they nre outlined at present Taggart, who has secured the option on the southern line for the Western Pacific, will ex tend the Sumpter Vatley south through Burns and thence to Lake view. The line of the Nevada-Callfor-nln-Oregon, which Is likewise a nar row gnuge, will be extended north In the meantime and the roads Joined at Lnkevlew. While the present line of the Ne-vncln-Cnllfornla-Oregon runs south on ly to Reno at present It Is planned by Tnggart to also control the Virginia A Trnrkee nnd thereby onen up the rich mining districts of southern Ne vndn. When this long narrow gauge line Is completed It will ho run In connec tion with the Western Pacific which extends from Snn Francisco to Salt Lake. At that city It will be connect ed with the Moffat road, the big Gould trans-contlnentnl line upon which so much money Is being spent. Bakor City Herald. Two Men Drowned. A double drowning occurred at Vnklmn City between 9 and 10 o'clock Sundny forenoon. Mndorls and Tho mlt Trembley, brothers, aro the vic tims. They were drowned while crossing one of the channels of the 'Ynklma river, and their bodies hnve not yet been discovered. These two men. together with two sobs of Madorls Trembley, had been nhnnninir wnnri nn nn Island In the river. The river was very high. From a source, the authority of which cannot be doubted, the Trib une learned yesterday that within a few days and possibly before the end of the present year, surveyors will be placed In the field at Dayton, Wash., by the Walla Walla and . Columbia River Traction company to commence work on the permanent survey of an electric line to Clarkston and Lewis ton. The work will be completed at the earliest possible date and con struction work on the system to be Installed by the company, extending from Wallula to the twin cities, will be well advanced during the year 1907, bonds for the construction of the same having been placed on a 5 per cent basis. The company has al ready secured the entire right of way from Wallula to Dayton, but the work has been conducted so quietly It did not attract general attention. Lew Iston Tribune. E. C. DeWItt . Much Indignation Is expressed throughout Okanogan county over the recent order of the secretary of the Interior withdrawing from all kinds of entry, except mineral, anout 300,- 000 acres of land for a proposed ex tension of the Washington forest re serve.
