A perfect beer Is healthful It builds up Btrength, aids digestion, and acts as a tonic. In giving renewed vitality. A perfect beer is possible only with perfect mnlt, and a perfect malt can only be made by tho eight-day process used by 1'olut. . , , Malt Is made from barley. Barley contains In Its elementary form tho constituents that go to build up the human system. Tho process of milking malt, as Borne of our renders may know, Is much tho same as tho process of digestion. The? grain is started growing and tho chemical changes thnt take pluce when It sprouts are similar to tho action of tho digestive fluids in the body If tho grain were eaten. Pnbst has proven by scienlltic ex- Cerlmenta and sixty yenrs of practical rewlng that eight days are required In making mall to Dring auoui muse necessary chemlcnl changes by which tho perfect predlgcstiil mnlt Is pro duced. In many breweries the old four-day process Is still used and the mnlt is of forced, unnatural develop ment. It lacks In nutrition and is In all ways inferior, much of the vital nutriment of tho grntn being lost. Tho Pnbst eight-day malting process re tains in predigested form In the beer all of tho nutritious, Ufo-glvlng ele ments of the grain. Pabst eight-day malt, tho perfect mnlt, doubles the cost of brewing but Pabst Malt, with tho exclusive Pabst method of brewing, makes Pabst Hluo Ribbon Boer superior as a nourishing tonio and a delicious beverage. Consul General Michael, writing from Calcutta on the jute crop of India, says: American buyers of Jute will be In terested In the final Jute forccaat for 1906 made by the government of In dia, It covers Bengal, eastern Ben gal, and Assam, where most of In dia's Jute is grown. The estimate Is 8,736,220 bales from 3,336,100 acres, against 8,088,930 bales in 1905. The other areas producing Jute, Cooch Bahar, Nepal, upper India, and sta tions outside of Bengal, have been es timated upon on tho basis of the pro duction of last year at 147,(28 bales. The director of agriculture, however, says that he believes these ' latter ureas will produce a smaller Increase on last year's output. Te also says that a small area of Jute has been cultivated In north Bahar. The grand total of bales for 1906 Is thus shown to be 8,883,868. ' It Is understood here by the ex perts that the estimates of the agri cultural department are very con servative, and that the product for 1906 will be considerably larger than that stated above. These experts quietly state that they believe the yield for this year will not fall far short of 900,000 bales In excess of tho output of 1905. The flood In tfce Jute-growing dis tricts of eastern Bengal and Assam, which destroyed a good deal of the crop In that Jute area, Injects an ele ments of uscertalnty In the calcula tion of even the experts, but they be lieve there will be a largely Increased output, and but for the high waters referred to there would be an un precedented crop. The reports show that there are at least 200,000 acres more of Jute sown this year than last, and It Is claimed thnt this fact alone Justifies the con clusion that the yield of 1906 will be largely in excess of that of 1905. There will be a prompt demand for all that will be raised, and at good prices, unless all signs fall, and this. It Is thought will stimulate tho plant ers to Increase the acreage planted to Jute all out of proportion to the demand, and thus bring down prices which ruled at record-making points. Letter Seven Yours on the ltoiul. One dny this week Dr. E. M. The remarkable thing about the undent traveler Is that It lias been on its way most of the time, hut didn't know where It was going. It was designed to reach him in Chicago, but he hud left for the Philippines. Hither It went and traveled for a year or two. resting in a number of barracks fur weekes or months. Finally the tip was given thnt Japan might be hold ing the doctor. The letter spent some time there, and then, with a few hie roglyphics of tho Mikado's upon It, crossed over to San Francisco, while the military postal people of the Pre sidio did a little stunt chasing its own er. Finally it sought the first address In Chicago. There one of the colli ge faculty knew that the doctor was still over the ocean and ho sent It back to Manila. The years had run Into five by this time. The dead letter of fice finally had a whack at It. The writer In Hood River had gone nnd other Inquiry sent It on Its way to his parental home. From there It camp the other day and Is now ready for a museum, while the doctor Is speculat ing upon what might have happened to him had he received It and landed In the home of strawberries and big red apples.
