Article of In corporation of the Blckelton North ern railway will be filed this week with the state auditor of Washing ton. The object Is to build, equip and operate a railroad from the mouth of Alder creek, on the Columbia, to Mount Adams, by way of Blckelton. From the mouth of Alder creek to Blckelton Is 48 miles by preliminary survey, through an extensive grain belt and stock country. Last year the territory tributary to the pro posed line raised over 1,000,000 bushels of grain, beside the feed for thousands of cattle, horses and sheep. From Blckelton the proposed line Is to run westerly to Mount Adams, about 65 miles dlBtant. The survey runs a few miles north of Goldendale because a much better grade can thus be secured, surveyors saying the entire 110 miles will average a 1 per cent grade. From Blckelton to Mt. Adams the road taps a great area of splendid yellow pine timber, which extends along 80 miles or so of Its length. Blckelton people have rais ed enough money for a permanent survey and have guaranteed the pro moters of the road a right of way from their town to the Columbia. Surveyors are In the field. It Is supposed the Northern Pacific Is backing the movement to secure a feeder. Blckelton people are Jubilant at the prospect of not having to haul their produce to Arlington, 24 miles distant, or to Mabton, Yakima coun ty, 18 mile away. trlbuted by the state of Washington to the reclamation fund last year.
