Both Leg Broken.
While preparing to wash a window
In the office of Fnrls & Kesl on the
second floor of the Sonna building
about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon,
Charles Letts fell to the sidewalk,
about 20 feet below on Ninth street
Both legs were broken and he was
bruised about the hend. Both frac
tures were near tho ankles and the
bone of one leg was protruding
through the flesh when Letts was
picked up. He was taken Into the
Enstman-Teller hardware store and
later to St. Luke's hospital. The at
tending physician says the accident
will not result fatally.
Letts had Just finished washing the
windows In the front part of the of
fice and wns getting Into position on
the ledge below one of the rear win
dows to wash It when he lost his bal
ance and with a loud shriek, fell to
the ledge. The fracture of the bones
In both legs Indicates that he struck
the hard cement walk on -his feet.

Fuel Coming Into Yakima.
Of the 15 cars of coal thot avrlved
yesterday scarcely any remains In the
hands of the dealers. As soon as the
announcement was made of the ar
rival of the coal the Northwestern
Improvement company had a big run
on the supply, and this morning the
coal hnd vanished like the snow be
fore a chlnook wind.
About three weeks ago, when there
was such a coal famine In the city
and country, all those who succeeded
In getting any coal at all had to be
content with one ton to the family.
This ton is now playing out. The
people nre coming back for more
and the probabilities nro the demand
for the next week will be strong.
If the weather continues mild,
however. It Is not likely thot the
emergency will develop serious.

with orders to run through on pas
senger time. The railroad company

' Yakima Volley Bay Market.
Alfalfa Is not advancing In price as
rapidly as It did a few weeks ago.
Today the product Is retailing at 814
per ton In this city. This would mean
that the farmer gets about $12 for
his product In the bale. Timothy hay
Is worth about 220. It Is reported
that hay Is hard to secure at the above
figures. The price this year to the
Yakima grower Is a bonanza. In
years past he has taken as low as 23
In the stack and sometimes he has
sold his baled product at 26 per ton.
It Is not believed that the price will
go much higher for some time.
Everybody has laid In a good supply
for the winter. The trading mostly
done now Is to locnl users. The
greater part of the alfalfa grown In
Yakima this year Is In the Sunnyslde
district. There Is a good part of the
crop there yet In the hands of the
growers.
The Seattle Times of Tuesday gives
the following hay prices prevailing In
that city: Eastern Washington timo
thy, 224; alfalfa, 219; wheat hay.

Safe Blowing nt Tekoa.
Last night the safe In the Jewelry
store of Troyer ft Engle was blown
up and the contents carried awny by
burglars, who gained an entrance to
the store by breaking a pans of
glass In a door In the rear. The knob
on the snfe was 'hammered off with
a sledge, which had been secured
from the blacksmith shop of G. A.
Prelwlti, together with some other
tools. A quantity of nitroglycerine
was poured In, which ran down to
the lower left-hand corner of the
