County Dlvhion Organization Started and an Active Campaign Opened Mil for DIviHlon to lie Presented to tho Coming gcmlon of tlio legisla ture Clmrlefl Conner President of Now Organization, and T. F. llnll Secretary. An active movement to divide Grant county has been started at Long Creek where a public meeting was held last Saturday and a county division or ganization launched. The Long Creek Ranger says of the movement: There was an enthusiastic county dlvlslorumeotlng held In Long Creek Saturd;w. and what Is likely to prove an Initiative movement wag started. Owing to the short time In which the notice of the meeting was given It was Impossible for many of the Hamilton and Monument people to nttend and this short notice was given, not to leave any one out, but because It was felt something should be done with out delay. An organization was perfected. William K. Weir was made chairman of tho meeting, and T. F. Hall sec retary. A discussion of the question was the order of the program for about a half hour. The town hall was well filled with citizens of all the northern part of Grant. Enthusias tic speeches were made by T. F. Hall, J. U. Jackson, William Chapman, Frank Kahler and Charles A. Coe. It developed In tho course of the meet ing that no one was there who was not In favor of county division and at frequent Intervals during the discus sion there was applause and stamping of the feet. Charles Conger was elected presi dent of the county division association and T. F. Hall was made secretary treasurer, ' Within tho next two weeks It Is probable meetings will be held all over this side of the county. Word has been received of a meeting to be held at Monument on Saturday, De cember 22. To Become Part oT linker. The Baker City Herald says of an other movement to add the Greenhorn mining district to Baker county: The Greenhorn mining district will be a part of Baker county. If a move ment put on foot by the owners of the mining properties, and by the men of that district Is a success. John Thomsen, manager of the Red Boy mine, and the Olive Lake power plant, Is In Baker today putting the project on Its feet. Mr. Thomsen de clares unless some opposition is met from the people of Baker City, that beyond question the next year will see that valuable mining district a part of Baker county. The movement Is fathered by him and has for Its support the united ef forts of the mine owners and the min ers of the district. Mr. Thomsen says that Grant county will be willing to get rid of the Greenhorn country, and so far he has met no objection In Baker county to the plan. The advantage of the plan lies In the fact that the mining Interests all center In Baker county and not in Grant. The mining men and miners all transact business with Baker and oppose going over to Canyon City for county affairs. They prefer looking after such business while they are In Baker. David Curtis, the half-witted news boy held at Duyton, O., for the mur der of Dona Gflmnn, was discharged at the preliminary examination, the court holding that the prosecution failed to show why he should be held. .
