The typhoid siege which prevailed here in the summer and this fall has abated ar;d no now cases have been reported lately. Diphtheria has not appeared as yet, but if the present kind of weather continues cases of thfs sickness are not unexpected. Mlnnis, while playing at homo last evening, fell and a penholder which It was carrying In Its hand, pierced the left eye, penetrating above the eyeball and Inflicting serious wound. However, the sight of the eye will not be affected. Wood Is Scarce. H. E. .Stevens was at Kamela this week buying wood. He got several carloads, but found It scarce. At a meeting of the gymnasium committee held last evening It was decided to arrange for a public enter tainment to be given at the Frazer theater during the latter part of Jan uary. The purpose of the entertain ment will he to raise funds with which to assist In meeting the expenses of the gymnasium, While definite plans have hot yet been wdriied out, it Is the intention to make the affair one of the most Interesting local talent shows that has ever been given here. It will bo for the most part In the nature of high class vaudeville, and one of the prin cipal features will be a singing and dancing specialty by a chorus of young ladles. There will also be many hu morous numbers, while some first- class acrobatic work will be given by Physical Director Shockley and oth ers. More complete arrangements mi the entertainment will be made short ly by Chairman Roy Raley and the other memberB of the committee. Re hearsals will be commenced after the holidays. At the request of students of the high school the gymnasium commit tee has fixed a special rate of $1 per month for students taking the class work In the gymnasium.
