Land Office Hii-lnc-i at Tho Italic
One of the busiest places in Eastern
Oregon Is the land office at The
Dall"s. where the register and receiver
and th'lr assistants ln doing a land
office business are busier than cran
berry merchants. Particularly has
this betn true during the past few
mcnths .-.luce the excitement over tim
ber land has been revived. As stated
In the Chronicle recently, during the
month of September 200 filings were
made .and while It wns expected that
the number would steadily decrease.
October proved the contrary, as 196
filed. Vastly different Is this from
the record of October, 1906, when
only 17 turned their attention to the
timber lands In this part of the state
The receipts of the office for the
month were 124.466.17, nnd business
other than timber filings as follows:
Original homesteads, 42.
Final homestead proofs, 29.

The gasoline motor enr went Into

beat the regular steam train schedule
about 20 minutes. Coming out of Em
